Salute!

I'm sitting here late in the night (really, very, very early in the morning) making some final moves in various games - and I have to say - how happy I am - right now... :D

The Multi Player format is by far my favorite way to experience these games - because of the interaction it provides and encourages with your comrades-in-arms.

This interaction is one of the reasons I was motivated to form the Tirailleurs et Dragons!, and it is why I enjoy my membership in our club and value it so highly.

Right now I'm involved in three MP battles with the T&D! (two against the Russian 2nd Grenadier Division, and one vs Der Jager), two MP battles with the Escadron's d'Honneur of Reserve Cavalerie Corps (against Hanoverian and Austrian Brigades), one MP partnered with Marechal Bardon (against a Spanish Brigade), and most strangely of all - a MP allied with the Red Nemesis (vs two fellow LGA officers...).

I'm having more fun than I would ever expect to have - and wish to say thank you to my comrades and to my noble opponents - all of you provide the ingredients that make this club and experience all I could ever hope it to be. 8)

MP games are fun, especially if you try to limit communication between commanders. It does not have to be something fancy, like the Messier MP system of actual command icons being in the same hex or within 2 hexes.

It can be a something like side players can only communicate strategy every 4-5 turns or whatever is decided on.

This makes for a bit of realism to MP games.

That is an example that veers close to a rule system I've been developing with Roy Purcell, borrowing heavily from Vladimir Repnin's R&H Rules, that incorporates what we call Line of Sight.

With LoS we play that forces cannot react to events outside of their LoS, in other words, we are removing the so-called god's eye view of the battle map, or the telepathic communication that typically occurs between units on the same side.

No wonder you cannot sleep. Fighting the Spanish Brigade would keep anyone up at night. We are like the monster under the bed or in the closet. Fear, I say!

L'Chevalier enters the common room early this AM (EST) and smiles upon seeing the bright face of Helga (she is surely indefatigable what with her endless 24 hrs a day shifts seeing to the every need of the officers engaged in these ceaseless Napoleonic Wars Continuum).

Ordering a strong cup of coffee and croissant he walks to the table where his friend the Scribe sits, as always busily writing in his ever present journals.

Ah, my friend, 'ow are you this morn? the scribe greets him warmly.
He has a cup of his own coffee to which he not so surreptitiously pours an added libation from a small silver flask.

Well enough... for the parade of engagements I find myself involved upon the battle maps of Europa.

The Scribe turns to a fresh page in his journal, dips the writing quill into the ink well and asks, Any news of your MP rencontres?

Yes my friend, there is much to report...

Of the MP battles listed at the beginning of this thread, there were three with de Tirailleurs et Dragons! of which the two with the 2nd Russian Grenadier Div continue (featuring Marechal Purcell in one, and Gen d'Div Hodl in the other) with the latter about to be closed at an apparent Draw - and the former is on turn 188 of 500+, and lo, a Major Defeat was suffered at the hands of the one with der Jager and his cohort.

The two with L' Escadron's d'Honneur (Robert Noftz & myself) vs the Osterreich Armee (Mark van Hattem & Celamanka Noftz) and (Karol Toth, Michael Hodl, Tim Cavallin, & myself) vs the Hanoverians (der Jager, der Shrike, & der Wolf...) are nearing the end - and most hotly involved, with the fate of victory, draw, or defeat hanging in a most tempestuous balance (these are on Eckmuhl and Waterloo battle maps respectively).

That where I was mentored with Marechal Bardon vs a Spanish Brigade (Brig Gen Trane Barredo & Coronel Richard Bradshaw) also on a Waterloo battle map resulted in a Major Victory for our arms.

Pause for a bite of croissant and a swallow of coffee...

And now I have entered the lists with my comrades-in-arms upon several new engagements:

Le Tirailleurs et Dragons! with Gen d'Brig Reaves and Lt Col Fogato vs a Spanish Brigade of Trane Barredo & Luife del Pino (Battle of Karlsburg/Jena game) which is on turn 38 of 300+; and another with Lt Andrews vs yet another Spanish Brigade team (these fellows surely rival the T&D! with their vigorous appetite for crossing of swords), featuring Trane and Richard, pitting the forces of the Confederation of the Rhine vs Prussia (Leipzig game). This one has just gotten underway.

And finally, a new Escadron d'Honneur with Lt Col Toth vs a hybrid team featuring Gen d'Div Hodl (hey, one of my own T&D! officers!) and Lt Gen Ejder occurring in the epic Six Days All Prussians scenario (Jena-Auerstadt game).

It is a good thing you're in the cavalerie my friend, having to gallop between so many battle maps, exclaims the Scribe at the finish of the telling.

Yes sir, I do love the MP battles!

Again, I offer a toast to my comrades-in-arms, on both sides of the hill!

My appreciation to you all for making this club such an enjoyable experience.

Ah, Helga, more coffee please!

Yes I agree. I am in 3 MP games and they are indeed fun! Now I admit I am losing in 2 but still, that is one more than I would be winning in single games!

A normal game will cut into family fun, Not every one lives on the beach but because it's home to me fifteen min turns sounds much better then all night and day. I enjoy the Allied teams and the French players that have learned to play together. Bravo to Todd who came onboard not to many years ago and now Multi-playing is almost the best way to play and learn. :D :D

"Speak of the devil, and he is likely to appear", says the Hanoverian officer known as Der Jager as he enters the tavern with an armload of military paraphenalia. Walking over to the location where the French Cavalry Commander and his trusty Scribe are seated, he deposits the items on the tabletop.

"Hmmm, now let's see", he mutters as he begins to sort through the pile. "This would appear to be yours, General Schmidgall", he says as he pulls a finely polished, French Heavy Cavalry saber from the pile. "I had our smiths put a new edge on your weapon as well as polish and lightly oil the blade so that you would not have any problems with corrosion. The battlefield can be such an unforgiving environment at times."

"Ah, yes", he continues as he pulls another officer's sword from the pile. "This would seem to be your Army Commander's blade, I trust that you will see it safely returned to him."

"And then there is the matter of the Blue, Bug Masher of France", he says as he pulls a Marechal's Baton from the pile. "Now, whereas I do make a habit of retaining these, it would seem that this particular Bug Masher had a label affixed to it stating that it was subject to recall. Please see that General Kling returns this to the Corsican Despot that temporarily occupies your nation's throne at the present time."

"Now, now, what does that actually leave me for my troubles? Oh yes, here it is", says the Coalition Army's Chief of Staff as he retrieves the carefully folded standard of La Grande Armee's Commander from the pile. "This will look simply marvelous hanging on the wall of the Coalition Trophy room. It will nicely match the one that we had previously taken from Marechal Jensen when he was in command of the forces of France."

"Coffee", says the Coalition Guardsman as he spies General Schmidgall's current libation of choice. "And black even", he says as he wrinkles his nose at the steaming brew. "Ah", he says as he gets a good whiff of the steam rising from the Scribe's cup, "now there is a man who knows how to drink coffee. Nothing like a bit of Irish Whiskey to improve the flavor!"

Salute!

L'Chevalier is grateful as always to retrieve his sword from the generous Jager.

Watching as the Lt Gen displayed the standard of General Kling however caused him some small discomfort.

Small you say?

Well, although of course the magnificence is to not be compared, perhaps some comfort will be applied to the General when he receives the gift that even now two fellow officers of le Tirailleurs et Dragons! are bearing with them from the distant battle map of Leipzig...

A newly minted French Colonel enters the bar and makes his way to the table of Generals Kling and Schmidgall. His dear friend General Hodl has remained behind in Saxony to take care of some unfinished business (taking back the city of Dresden, and taking care of a special woman). Wide open eyes stare at the Colonel, as draped over him like a longcoat is a colourful and highly decorated ... what appears to be a quilt.

He snaps off the quilt, unfurls it, and happily nails it on the wall behind the French Generals' table.

"Sirs! On behalf of General Hodl and myself, I would like to present to you the banner of the Coalition CiC. We took it at Leipzig last month from FM Moss and one of those pesky Hanoverians. We only had to rout one of their armee-korps in order set an example of what we were planning to do with the other half-a-million men that the enemy was planning to throw at us. I guess that they hadn't the stomach for it... ha ha ha!!"

Smiles & laughter arise from the French table, while others joined around to check out the Coalition banner for themselves. "My, that is some nice stitching Gaston!" "Oui! Grand-mere really outdid herself on that one!"

The French Colonel looks up and sees General Jones staring at him, eyes burning.

"Come now Mssr. Jones, of course I am just having a bit of fun here. In the spirit of brotherhood, I offer back to you and your CiC this banner that we unceremoniously retrieved at Leipzig... I think that, in their haste, your guys simply forgot to bring this with them... you know those Austrians... they really like to pack a lot of baggage! So, I thought that I would return it to my fine Coalition friends personally."

General Jones is rolling his eyes, and opts to pour himself a tall glass of Jaegermeister.

The Colonel adds, "In fact, I see that you did the same... that is very kind of you Messieur. I make this as a gift of substitution to General Kling for the loss of his own. It is nice how we can help each other like this!"

Sitting down to a nice snifter of Benedictine, the French Colonel regales his Generals with the camp stories and lore from Germany, amidst the spirit of brotherhood that prevails throughout.
