With all the baloney flying around here these days  , I agree with some of the other posters that we need something much more constructive going on around our club... to get the juices flowing again. Like a 'simple' Tournament!What is involved in setting one up? Can it be done in a simple fashion? |

It sure can be done in a simple fashion. You don't need a brackets based one or an overly complex system. A real simple way is take the historical scenarios from a game and play them from front to back. Let people pick up a battle they want to play with someone and let them go at it. Do mirror matches too if you want. Pool together some volunteers to do the admin work. Doesn't need to be that involved. |

Thanks Scott... I like your ideas. Concurrent "mirror matches" would eliminate any squabbling about who has inherent advantages... simply add up all the victory points from both games and the result will be clear cut. Admin work should be a simple spreadsheet. Set up some time limits for each round, etc etc. Pick a good set of Optional Rules, and forgo the use of any form of "house rules" (I.e. "MOE IV"). Forget about custom scenarios... too much work... just use canned scenarios. It might make sense to canvas the membership as to appropriate scenarios to throw into the pool of tournament scenarios. To keep it consistent and simple, the tourney convenor can then proclaim which scenario will be used for each round. I would imagine that simplicity would encourage more participation as well. Would be nice to get at least 32 players. Perhaps 64?

Indeed, I run a tourney at the CCC since last summer. I have a simple spreadsheet that tells me, who signed up, what games they own and also what the games are for each round as well as where everyone is at in each. We don't really set time limits, as it is more of an open format and some folks are slower gamers. Everyone naturally took to playing generally the same person each round, as they seemed to fit their style. I had a few folks I knew who liked to game a lot as free floaters to fill in vacancies created. One house rule we use in the Club was employed, optional rules were agreed to upon prior and off everyone went. But canvasing the membership for what scenarios they'd be interested in playing would be a good idea too. Could use the forum polling feature for that. |

With regards to "PBEM No File Save", I figure that the scenarios themselves wouldn't be too large, so the excuse of "not enough time to finish my turn in one session" should not be an issue. |

True and that boils down to whether or not the large battle are picked, which is where my concern over it was. |

Now I thank that the best thing is one from each year 1805-1815 the players pick what game not no wild 300 turn game but simple 60 turns. Mirror games the winners in each year advance to play only the winners in the year they picked. No MPT teams someone will always not show up. So that would be the winner in 1805 is the winner in 06 is the winner in 1809 is the winner in 1812 is the winner in 1813 is the winner in 1814 is the winner in 1815 is. Seven winners. If you have 10 people in 1809 and 3 in 1815 you could ask the obb man to pick another year first come first serve. |

"Post-Electoral Tourney" All of this talk about a getting a tournament organized sounds a blast (that is a cannon blast!). I would recommend keeping the scenarios to 20 turns or less (average) if you are having more than one round. If it is a one off bracket then you can creep up to 30 -50 turns - as most battles will be over around the half way point or thereabouts from my general experience. Keep this cannon firing!
