No new info here, but after seeing someone show a bit of confusion over what file you modify to change a scenario, I thought I'd give a short overview of what the various files in John's titles do. There are full guides on all of this stuff, but this is just a fast overview.

weapon.dat: This is the file that has the listing of all the weapons. NOTE, it does not have weapon values, but simply assigns a name to the letters listed in the pdt. As a rule, unless you are doing an extremely deep mod (deep enough to require a 2nd install of the game!), don't mess with this.

.pdt file. This is the "holy grail" of the files. It's the "Parameter Data File" and has a whole raft of different values, including but not limited to: Terrain MP Costs, Terrain Combat Effects, Weapon Values (firepower), Weather... Short form. In game, look under Help=>Parameter Data (F2) and if it's listed in that window, it's in the .pdt file. Don't mess with this unless you find one of the guides that explains all the ins and outs. It's a pretty complex beastie, and mistakes can be... messy. Trust me.

.oob file. This is the file which lists all the units in a battle/campaign. It has unit name, size, quality and the like. It's not as complex as others, but you will learn to count "begin" and "end" until your brain turns to mush.

.scn This is the actual scenario file. It's modified using the scenario editor. (For all other files, use a good text editor. I like UltraEdit). In the editor, you place units (including reinforcements), define fixed units, victory conditions, arty ammo levels, scenario length, scenario date, scenario text and the like.

Again, the usual reminders.
1) Always save anything you change under a new name. You do not want to overwrite the stock files.
2) If you are using modified files, -always- be sure to clear it with an opponent before starting.
