Please Monsewers, details please. How did the Marechal accomplish such a feat? How long did the contest take? What about the 2nd day? Why only the first day? Hmmm.

Thanks for all the kind words.

In response to Muddy & Clifton, the game took 36 turns by which time the Allied forces south of Leipzig were a shambles with the Russian army in particular in very bad shape; the entire Russian Guard and all artillery lost with maybe 2,000 men left. North of the river the French were decimated. On the Lindenau front, the Austrians were repelled with the loss of most of their infantry.

In the south I anchored on the river and sought to turn the Allied left. VIII, IX & IV Cav Corps supported by the 2nd Division of Old Guard infantry held the left, II & V Corps held the center; XI, I Cav, II Cav, V Cav & all Young Guard moved toward the Allied right with Guard Cavalry and 1st Old Guard infantry in reserve. The Austrians withdrew immediately covered by Platovs cossacks; the Austrians escaped as did Platov himself but virtually all of the cossacks were lost. Two divisions of cavalry and one infantry division from XI Corps followed the Austrian withdrawal, while the rest of the flanking force joined by V Corps attacked the Russians from around University Copse west to about half way to the river. Meanwhile most of the Prussians and the Austrians between the river (who crossed to the east bank in the south before moving north) attacked along the river, later supported by Austrian reserve Korps grenadiers. They ran into a couple of grand batteries that took a heavy toll.

As the Russians were being decimated the Allies committed all of the Austrian cavalry from the west flank against the left of the flanking force unsupported by infantry. They quickly got in trouble and the Prussian cuirassiers were committed in an attempt to save them along with the HQ cossacks, but still unsupported by infantry. They were facing one corps of cavalry, supported by a division of Young Guard and over time two divsions of XI Corps. The Austrian light infantry moved up to help ( they were the trailing elements of the withdrawal) but the force that pursued around the woods closed in about that time and they were quickly surrounded and destroyed.

The Austrian Cuirassiers were committed to try to save the Russians and although they inflicted some heavy losses they were too little too late and were also destroyed. Then the Prussian brigade from the left showed up and was mauled and the 2nd Division of the Austrian reserve was deployed to cover the right and were also being dismantled. The bulk of the Austrian infantry from the east flank were just arriving as the battle closed having spent the entire time withdrawing and circling around with the intent, I think, of joining the attack toward Leipzig but French forces had reached the river between them and the main attack farther north.

About this time the Austrian grenadiers finally broke through toward Leipzig but lacked the time and strength to break into the city so this just put them deeper into the pocket.

That about sums it up. Too many Allied units fought unsupported and paid a heavy price for it.
