Does any one can teach me how to set encryption in campaign game? In a recent game I mistakenly went into my opponent's turn. I make sure that I selected PBEM encryption choice and both of us have opened the campaign game correctly.

Zou, you are asking a very common question players have when they first try the Campaign Menu.
The unfortunate answer is that if the game is being played from the Campaign Menu you cannot use encryption mode.
No one has ever understood why this is - but this is how it is.

There is only one way around this issue and that is to do the following.
When you have created your first game file for the scenario (after all command decisions have been made) you can click on 'file', click on 'save as' and this will prompt you to give the scenario a new name.

When you have done this you then click on the 'save' button, and you have now created a .bte file.
This will be found from here on out in the Main Menu under 'old' games, and 'PBEM'.
You will now be able to use encryption.

Here is the catch with using this method - if the campaign is a series of connected scenarios you will have to play each one individually, which will mean you cannot port the casualties incurred in one battle to another.

The only really good way to use this method I describe is in those Campaign Menu scenarios that are stand alones - in other words, those that don't continue from one scenario to another.
There are scenarios like this in many of the games, but they are not all like this.

Does this help you?

If you are fighting a series of linked campaign senarios that carry forward your casualties, you simply need to accept the fact that your game files will not be encrypted, and be very careful not to view your opponent's file. This requires discipline and honor from both players, but it is the only way to have your casualties carried forward, which is a critical aspect of playing linked, campaign scenarios.

It's a pain but you could rename campaign files to "Waterloo Turn xxx - Allied [or French]" to avoid opening the other player's file by accident.

Doesn't the renaming of the file automatically change it to a bte file, as I describe earlier in the thread?

That is the process I use to create encryption files for stand alone Campaign cpf files.

I meant if you wanted to play a branching campaign. Most of the campaign battles seem to be available as standalone scenarios anyhow.

Pardon for my slow wits, now I understand what you said: rename the file which is different from what I do under Save As.

Renaming doesn't change the file from cpf, but Save As does change it to a bte.

Got it.

Thanks.

Thank you all for helping. As we are playing a series game it looks like we can only count on ourselves :nappy:

Exactly. You cannot play these games, campaign or scenario, thinking there will be a problem.

Enjoy the games. :frenchvive1:
