I just loaded the Matrix version of the BG games last week for the same reason. The game works fine with the only issue I've noticed being that the Function Keys do not work with the following message: "The Help for this program was created in Windows Help format, which depends on a feature that isn't included in this version of Windows. However, you can download a program that will allow you to view Help created in the Windows Help format." So if you want to download the program you can view the F key data if Windows will not work as installed on your pc. |

Jeff, one of the other members of this club has offered to sell me the Matrix version of ALL the Napoleonic games for $10.00 ... I have a desktop (very old) with XP on it and am using the OLD Talonsoft versions on it and would be glad to let you purchase that Matrix set if you want ... I originally decided to ... just in case. Jim: Well, I would give it a try. At worst it would not work and you could uninstall. I seem to recall some issues with the original BG games not working on newer pc's but that was many years ago. My understanding is that Matrix bought the rights to the old BG games, repackaged them all (Nap) onto one disk with all the updates. They may have updated the compatibility issue for newer pc's if there was one. You may want to ask the new cadet what version he is using, original BG or Matrix, if not known and if he has the last update. Mark: I have the Matrix game and all the old BG games, just don't play them anymore except in these training circumstances where the trainee only owns a BG/Matrix game. |

I got this all wrong and thought Jeff needed the matrix versions ... DOH! Jim: Talonsofts version will NOT run on Win7 unless it is OTHER THAN Home Premium, Matrix's version will run on 7 AND 8 ... Talonsoft's version and the Matrix version ARE NOT compatible. if you have Home Premium and need to run the Talonsoft version you would need to update to another version of Win7 for this capability ... not sure of the cost, but I'm sure Microsoft wouldn't give it away free. I bought an old XP machine for $100 from my Brother-in-law for just this reason and to play a few other older games when I feel like it. I currently have a Napoleon in Russia game going with Einar Mason of this club. Mark |

Agree Jim. It is a learning curve in trying to recall all the tricks of the trade using these old titles after playing the HPS/JTS titles for so long. |

Yeah, like never put your guns inside a Square! I confused that rule once in KTTF. I knew not to do so in my old BG playing days, but at the time I had been exclusively playing HPS for a solid year. My impenetrable HPS defense against cavalry cost me most dearly in the older BG version. Oh, but the lesson was thereafter indelibly inscribed, at least until my Alheimer's finally gets the upper hand, which reminds me... What's for lunch? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
