My Fellow Officers of the NWC, Salute. Let me first start by thanking everyone for the opportunity to seek your support for the post of the Club’s Public Relations Officer. I will try my best to keep this speech short, nonetheless , I believe it is important to briefly outline who I am and why I joined the NWC. In my view, this is essential for you to be comfortable and confident that in casting your vote in support of my candidacy, you will be choosing an individual who is presently very much engaged in the club activities and shares your view to continue to make the club the best that it can be for the benefit of all of our members. Now, for a little background let me tell you that I am Canadian, born in a small town in Nova Scotia, but raised in Halifax, ( my father was in the Canadian Navy and was stationed in Halifax, the home of Canada’s eastern fleet) . After finishing my education my career took me to many places across Canada and ultimately blessed me with the opportunity to work and live in the beautiful Caribbean region. I have been away from Canada for the past thirteen years and in that time have lived in Jamaica, Dominican Republic, Cayman Islands and now presently in Puerto Rico. I have always had a keen interest in Military History, but a special interest for the epoch of the Napoleonic area. My first interest in war gaming was with Avalon Hill board games. Moving to Jamaica there was very limited opportunity to continue with this side of my hobby and I was fortunate enough to discover the Talonsoft Battleground series. Many hours of solitaire play were spent on Prelude to Waterloo, Waterloo and Napoleon in Russia. With changes in computer technology these wonderful games seemed to experience their problems and I somehow stumbled on to the HPS series of games and the expanded period of Napoleonic history which they covered. It was with the acquisition of the HPS games that I joined the NWC in May 2008. My initial interest in joining the club was to find human opponents, ( as we all know about the AI capabilities of our beloved games), so initially was not very active in the forums other than the “opponent needed” threads. Through the email exchanges I met more and more members and also became more active in the French Army to enjoy the role playing aspects of the club. The role playing and enjoyment of sharing ( and seeking) more knowledge led me to post more frequently in the Rhine Tavern and in doing so expanded my contact with different members even further. As I posted more frequently, and came to meet more members I thought it was important for me to give something back to the club that had provided me with the opportunity to enjoy and share my passion for Napoleonic History. As a result I was selected to assume command positons within the French Army and I am presently the Corps Commander for V Corps. The opening up of the PRO positon on the cabinet provides yet another opportunity for me to contribute even more to the club I so dearly love ,and to continue to make it the best history and gaming club possible. I am a strong supporter of the theory that encouraging participation in the clubs forums is the best recipe to strengthen the fabric of the club. It is addictive – the more members who get comfortable participating in our forums the more active they will become in our club. I know from experience, this was what hooked me. I am an active Corp Commander and try to maintain contact with all of the members in our Corps (team). I continually encourage V Corps members to participate in MP games so as to build comradery within the Corps but to also broaden their exposure to Coalition members. I remain very active in the forums and when not travelling on business make it a point to visit the forums daily. I am also active in the ACWGC (the American Civil War Game Club) and I am a member of the Blitz. My relationships with the members I know in these clubs will serve me well if elected as they give me a wonderful opportunity to tell people about our great club. As your Public Relations Representative I am committed to a) Remaining very active in our club forums b) Increasing my activity in other club forums to promote the tremendous advantages of our club c) Continuing to maintain active dialogue with our own general membership d) Maintaining my involvement in recruiting and helping new members e) Promoting and supporting our Club f) Having an open door and open mind to any issue that the general membership wish to bring to cabinet. g) Promoting and championing the skill of practicing civility in exchanging views and sharing ideas I hope that my history of active involvement in our club demonstrates my commitment to continuing to try to make our club the best it can be and thus enhance the enjoyment of all our members. I truly appreciate your time in reading my message, and ask for your support in electing me to the club’s cabinet Best Regards Roy Purcell |

I have gotten to know both candidates over the years and have considered what each has said in their speeches. As the CiC of the LGA, I know what kind of leader it takes to represent the club to the public. Roy, the membership can trust in your record and your character. We can respect the manner in which you have conducted yourself here. You have my vote, and I encourage the membership to support you as well Battle On... |

Gentlemen Officers of the NWC: Of the two candidates for our Club Public Relations Officer, I have known Jeff Bardon far longer than I have known Roy Purcell. Roy and I have never actually played a game together, whereas Jeff and I have individually fought each other to a bloody draw on the virtual battle maps. Jeff is admittedly an extremely talented player. I have gotten to personally know him very well over the years through our forum, and numerous email, exchanges. I must admit that I do not personally know Roy's particular talent as a player, but as our personal relationship has deepened over the course of this past year, I have to say that I am extremely impressed by his clarity of thought, productive focus, positive attitude, and honorable conduct. Character traits that will serve him well as a member of our club’s Cabinet. Having carefully reviewed all of the posts by both of these candidates, and given full consideration to their personal attributes, I confidently offer my full support in helping to elect Roy as the best man to serve as our next Public Relations Officer, and encourage each and every one of you to do the same. In my view, Roy Purcell is the clear choice as our next Public Relations Officer of the NWC. |

Salute! Members of the NWC, we are gathered together here to decide who we will choose to represent our club to the world beyond these tavern walls. It was just earlier this year in the spring time that I myself stood for this position and had the good fortune to be elected to serve you in this capacity. The Public Relations Officer takes a leading role in meeting what I believe are two of the most important challenges we face - that of helping to sustain the level of current membership, and also to increase the membership rolls. To best accomplish this difficult task requires someone who is active as a leader in our club - Roy is the commander of V Corps in LGA; and someone who is a presence in our forums, participating in the exchange of ideas and information that we all find interesting about the games we play, the accomplishments of our fellow officers, and the historical era - Roy meets this criteria as well. Roy is very active on the battle maps - with an obvious affinity for MP games. And Roy is a longstanding member in other internet gaming clubs which is a key attribute in being able to function effectively in this post. The Public Relations Officer is a member of the Cabinet, which is a serious responsibility, requiring someone who displays the deepest commitment to understanding what it means to be a member of our club, a strong moral sense of how we are to interact and treat with one another, and best serve the interests of the membership. This requires the ability of working as part of a team effort to build consensus when different points of view are brought to the table. I have full faith that Roy Purcell is the best candidate to assume this role on our behalf, and will be casting my vote for him in this election, and I encourage you to do so as well. Regards, |

The campaign period is now closed, and this thread has been locked. I will be emailing Voting Instructions to all officers. The instructions will be immediately followed by a Voting Form which you will need to submit in order to have your votes counted. Thanks to all of the candidates for the cleanest campaign period that we have enjoyed here to date. Best of luck, gentlemen. |
