What these games need is the ability to pick your forces and a random map. I have not played against the AI in the few games I have but my opponents typically have. It is a bit disheartening to have your enemy recommend moves for you because they know everything you have and where it will come on the map.

That would be nice I agree. Can't see it happening though. I try and play scenarios not played before as much as possible but the older the game the less likely this is. Spain at least ticks the box.

Anyway I wouldn't listen to what an opponent says......

I agree it'd be nice....but nothing is stopping anyone from using the scenario editor....granted it takes a lot more effort, but it leaves the window open for something different....

I never was into "generated" battles, usually the map looks so silly random that you wonder why anyone would battle here.
For example the Steel Panthers series has a map generator but as said the maps miss any resemblance to real natural landscape.

What-If situations are OK as they usually are based on real landscape and forces also seem very plausible but generated is just dull in my opinion and with many battles not covered it also doesn't seem necessary.

Alternately you could pick a big map, pick a big scenario and then choose your variable entry rate percentage and just go for it...

of course then the issue becomes vp level balancing -but it is not impossible. . . not entirely the same thing as a random battle generator but it would provide some randomness to situations.

There used to be a guy at the ACWGC, years ago, who designed blind battles for people. As in they put in a request, the two opponents and he made them and then sent them to play, possibly already setup in PBEM form, can't recall...

Now who the heck was that.....

I don't know if you remember but there was a "Hill Challenge" tournament many years ago organized by Simone Tombesi at the ACWGC and it was awesome.

This was the most impressive feature of Muddy's Master of Europe tournament of which there has been 4 editions.
No one knew the scenarios or force mix as they were custom builds and sent to you with the first turn advanced so you could not study the opponents forces.

Sometimes they were uneven but as Muddy said in the end the best players seemed to find there way through.
Many of the old players in this club loved that tournament with a number of famous champions.

I liked it as the scenarios were not balanced in a sterile way. Even though I was on the butt end of a couple of toughies it was still great.
A pure knockout for everyone. No PC groups :D not that they are bad thing necessarily.

Monsieur, I understand where you are coming from. Not one of these game we play cannot be first looked at by the other side to see where and how much you start with but after turn one that all changes with the enc code. Now in the Camp games there are no enc codes. but when I first join the NWC that was called cheating and you could be put out of the club for that. I feel that the most unrealistic thing to do is replay the other side moves. Nap would not stop and say let's replay the enemies moved. Now in some very cheap games of the ACW you have ghost or scouts who spot the enemies moves and follow the enemies moves these games don't have such. An I would not play any one who told me where to move and how to move. The biggest problem I had with one of the French Commanders who is not here and will remain name less because he would look at the battle map and plot the movements of my Corps.
