Friends:

A round of drinks for the victorious French team of Pierre D. and Antonio Z. who defeated Sir Muddy and Jim Pfluecke on the 1st day of a big Waterloo battle. Blucher (a.k.a. Sir Muddy) made a fatal error early on the first day and committed the Prussian army to delaying the French invasion of the Netherlands. The Prussians had some success early but then the routs began and the French swarmed around the Prussian remnants and methodically destroyed the Prussian army piecemeal. By the end of the day, there was no hope remaining and Blucher surrendered.

This defeat was entirely Blucher's -- the Anglo-Allied army committed to the fight only to try to salvage a bad situation. But there are too many French for the Allies to handle on the first day.

Helga, it is my defeat and so this evening's drinks will come out of my purse. And please send a bucket of ale out to the stables to keep my horse quiet. I do not want to hear his criticisms about my handling of the affair. :revenge:

Congrats to the French team (as I search for the hidden magnet under the game table LOL).

Better luck next time Muddy! :)

It was indeed a glorious day for French arms. The invincible Sir Muddy, whose reputation is among the highest, asked me to replace his original partner on the afternoon of the first day. I cannot comment to much on the skill and dash of our opponents, because things got so ugly so fast I stopped watching the replays. But Pierre and Antonio must have been working some magic to work over Mr. Muddy so thoroughly!

It was fun while it lasted!

Not to fret Sir Muddy, even the greatest fall sometimes, I am sure Blücher will forgive you this time....

If you would have played the H&R rules the victory would have been yours, I dare them to play me same game using H&R rules

I am going to be playing this big scenario - Warren's version with new updates - soon with John Egan - just as soon as I can get some things rounded off ....

I played the long scenario once before but feel that the Prussians cannot adequately exit from the clutches of the French in time before they lose too much for such an early part of the campaign. The version by Warren allows the Prussians to retreat and get out of harm's way .. a much more fairer assessment of the situation.
