Gentlemen, this picture gives me a bit headache: ![]() It depicts General Espagne at Heilsberg in 1807. There he commanded a heavy cavalry division with the 4th, 6th, 7th and 8th Cuirassiers. He carries a cuirassier uniform and the regiment behind him is obviously a cuirassier regiment. But the guy on the most left, isn't it a hussar? More troubling, is anyone able to identify that regiment on the right? Its uniform seems to be that of the carabiniers, pretty obviously with the bearskins, but the number 4 on the horse blanket makes it clear that it's the likely the 4th cuirassier regiment as there were only 2 regiments of carabiniers. Now, made the famous Édouard Detaille such a mistake or what is the explanation for this regiment? |

Rather good observation/questions Christian. I'm sure there's a reason for it, but will have to dig around to find one. Maybe others have some insight that is easier to provide. |
