Officers of La Grande Armée and Coalition,

May I request a brief moment of silence and also provide you with an opportunity to charge your glasses.

Today, I present to you, a fine upstanding volunteer in the service of his Imperial Majesty, Napoleon I.

Please join me in a toast to the newly commissioned Sous-Lieutenant Alan Sharif, who has been assigned to the command of 2ème Compagnie du 3ème Régiment d'Artillerie à Cheval, Artillerie Divisionnaire, 1er Division, 1er Corps d'Armée.

Whether friend or foe, let us honour him with our customary warm welcome.

I have informed him that it is also customary for the new recruit to but the first celebratory round of drinks. Gentlemen the bar is open.

Gentlemen, please raise your glasses to our newest recruit: Sous-Lieutenant Sharif.

Welcome to the 1st Corps.

May your skirmisher screen always be thick, and the enemy’s casualty roll thicker!

Bonjour Sous Lieutenant, as the bar is open I wish you well Sir. You will find many fine Allied officers here more than willing to cross swords with you. In that endeavour I wish you slightly less luck :)

Welcome to the club Alan, I am sure you will have fun!

Thank you for your kind words Gentlemen. I will give you a brief introduction. I have been playing these games since HPS published them, and soon discovered I was a military genius, born with all the skills found in history's greatest commanders. I had, at this time, only played the AI.

After awhile I grew tired of the interface, moving vast number of units, and the ease with which I could defeat my artificial opponents.I SHOULD have tried pbem back then, but for reasons I cannot easily explain, didn't. Instead I played other publishers games for around twenty years, but WDS brought me back into the fold.

Last month I started a few pbem games, and immediately enjoyed the experience. How I wish I had done this sooner, but c'est la vie.

However, time has been cruel, and I find my military genius has dimmed with age, dimmed quite dramatically. Either that, or the AI was rubbish. Either way, I am hoping it might return, a little, with practice.

I am retired, meaning I will generally be able to turn game turns around in 24 hours or less, and based in the UK, so on GMT.

Sous-Lieutenant Sharif
2ème Compagnie du 3ème Régiment d'Artillerie à Cheval,
Artillerie Divisionnaire,
1er Division,
1er Corps d'Armée.

Welcome, Sous Lieutenant!
It's a shame you found yourself on the wrong side, fighting for the cause of the Corsican oppressor, and didn't join the armies of enlightened and truly legitimate monarchs! Alas, not much can be done now...

Welcome, Alan! I'm sure that playing PBEM will elevate your skills quickly, and you'll experience a fast learning curve once you start competing against human opponents.
