Officers of la Grande Armée,

I would like to bring to your attention a series of after action reports compiled by Sous-Lieutenant Steve Simenic, detailing his engagements with various Allied and French officers.

These can be found on the "Archive des Rapports Après Action" thread.

They are certainly illuminating and worthy of taking the time to read.

Well done Sous-Lieutenant Simenic.

Thank you, sir! They were also enjoyable to write - thanks also to my opponents.

Of course our agents in Paris picked up on these manuscripts being released a while back. It is not that we are truly interested in studying the “advance to the rear in force” manoeuvre — but, out of curiosity… one wonders — might our French counterparts “accidentally” leave a few pages where Allied eyes could find them? Purely for the love of history, literature and spirited linguistic debates among the more poetic Allied officers.

We promise not to tell the Emperor and to act surprised when we meet you on the field.
We would return them before anyone even noticed. Probably.

A few of the reports were published in the newspapers: here, here and here.

Perhaps I could add a few more that were written for the newspapers to the notice board by the door of the Rhine Tavern.

Thank you, Sir.

I advise all Allied officers to follow the practice of the talented French lieutenant and keep notes on the battle progress – not necessarily for public AARs, but for themselves.

From experience, this serves as a valuable tool for self-evaluation and reflection, and it also helps keep emotions in check, allowing to approach each situation with a cooler, more balanced mindset – so in a way with your own notes acting as an emotional thermostat.
