Hi guys, I think that training is the best way to improve at the game. Which scenario(s), in your opinion, are the best for training, also when playing against the AI, this in addition to reading (books, magazines, reports, accounts, AARs, etc.)?

Thanks

Kind Regards

For Allied offensive practice, I recommend The Battle of Saltanovka (36 turns) from the 1812 Campaign.
For Allied defensive practice, good old Quatre Bras is an excellent scenario (any variant).

Both are just the right size and avoid overwhelming the player with too many operational options, as the front is narrow in both cases. But yet there is plenty to desicions to be made at divisional level.

The AI is OK, but the larger the map, and the larger the forces, the less competent it becomes. It's good for leaning and testing tactics against, but not much more. We've all defeated the AI regularly and thought we were Napoleon reincarnated, only to be thrashed the first time we faced a live opponent.

That said, I've found a number of the introductory scenarios tough to beat against the AI. I'd try all of those. The first scenario in Russian Campaign, 000, is extremely difficult. Likewise, 000 in Leipzig is a tough little game.

Finally, I can't recommend Alexy's training guide highly enough. It's long and in depth, so you probably won't get everything out of it first go. Focus on a section at a time, play some games, check that you understood the section fully, then move on to the next one.

ah.. missed the AI part of the question.
For defensive practice I dont think AI will do any good.
For offensive practice as Dean suggested the 000 scenarios are better scripted I suppose
