Post subject:  Skirmishers blocking retreat path...
Something that always bothered me about the BG system (I think HPS works the same) is the possibility of 25-50 skirmishers blocking the retreat path of 500+ soldiers that lost mélée against the ennemy, causing elimination of the stack.

I don't recall having seen any real discussion on that matter, here on this board, Anyways...[8)]

Would it make more sense that the retreating units melee their way out against smaller units surrounding them? How was it happening in the battlefields of those times?

Oh, it's been discussed over the years. One of the later patches to the HPS games (at least Eck and Wagram, not sure about NRC), is that formed infanrty will "run over" enemy skirmishers and destroy them on retreating (if necessary). It's a bit controversial in and of itself though, but I find it an improvement.

In any case, personally, I'll use skirms to complete the encirclement of skirms, but that's about it.

I belive there is a standart house rule adressing this issue. I never heard any comments against it. You may look through the rules of the club, it was somewhere at the bottomn of the page. My two cents[:I]
