Post subject:  Trouble with Wagram and Install
Hey Guys,

I am trying to install Wagram after having my PC updated redone and all that jazz. They added SP 2 to it. Well it took Eckmuhl ok...but I got an install of Wagram with no cpm.exe file or any of that, now when I try to reinstall when it gets to one of the Campaign .bmp Maps it stops and says redundancy error cannot install and it closes out the install. Is this tied to the Autoexec.net file from a topic previously or is this something different??

"AUTOEXEC.NT Error after Installation of Windows XP SP2

Problem

After installation of Service Pack 2, Windows XP may display an error message relating to "AUTOEXEC.NT" when trying to run certain 16-bit applications.

Discussion

The InstallShield software used for the installation of JInitiator makes use of 16-bit Windows technology which requires a valid AUTOEXEC.NT file to be present in the system. This file, which is part of the Windows 16-bit subsystem as it ships with Windows 2000, Windows XP, and Windows Server 2003, normally resides in the "System32" subdirectory of the Windows installation directory.

Installation of Windows XP Service Pack 2 on an otherwise "healthy" Windows XP system may delete the AUTOEXEC.NT file. As a result, when trying to run certain applications which make use of 16-bit technology an error message like the following may be displayed:

"16 bit Windows Subsystem - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT. The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application."

The error message can be misleading, because it is displayed even if the AUTOEXEC.NT file is actually missing.

To verify whether you have the file, type "%windir%/system32/" in the address bar of an Explorer window. If there is no AUTOEXEC.NT file proceed as follows:

1. Browse to "%windir%/repair/" (usually "C:\WINDOWS\repair")

2. Right-Click and Copy the AUTOEXEC.NT file

3. Browse to "%windir%/system32/" (usually "C:\WINDOWS\System32")

4. Right-Click inside the window and Paste the file

The error condition described here may also be the result of corruption of the AUTOEXEC.NT file, in which case the above procedure may be helpful to restore a valid file.

Corruption of the AUTOEXEC.NT file has also been related to virus programs. You may want to virus-check your system with one of the following free tools:

· Symantec Security Check

· Panda ActiveScan"

Boy I wish that was it...but here is the full error message:

Error: Data error (cyclic redundancy check).

Lol...[:D] Or as my feidn tells me it is because I am running windows.

Any thoughts????

Copy the CDROM files to your computer, then try to install from there.

The CRC is part of Windows installer and, basically, verifies that the files are not corrupted, in some manner.

You may want disable the Windows Firewall and use something else. It can cause a million problems. I disabled it and installed the Zone Alarm (Free version) and a ton of issues I was having have gone away. It's to bad but it's been more trouble than helpful. Good luck.

Thanks for all the help.. Don't use windows firewall I use a "real program" lol [:D]

Been talkin with Rich Hamilton and I'm gonna do a few things. It maybe as simple as cleaning the disc, which it has not been done yet....[:D]. But I know it can't be the drive it is brand new....or at least I hope...[:)]

CRC can also indicate bad media or a bad drive, since you say the drive is new it's probably not that. Have you done the obvious and tried the disk in another computer?

Thanks for everyones help, it was as simple as cleaning the disc....lol...I'm a twit. [:p]

But I do ask some computer versed people....is a DVD Rom more sensitive to reading than a CD Rom...is there a difference in reading technology...or could it just be the drive maker??

Scott the main difference between CD and DVD is capacity. DVD's are formatted using a different type of laser than CD's. They are able to burn smaller pits and much closer together than the CD lasers. A CD can hold 650MB while a DVD can start out holding 4.7GB. Also some DVD can use both sides (doubling the capacity) finally some DVD disks also have a semi-transparent layer added to its surface. By refocusing the laser between the surface and this layer the capcity can be doubled again (you can also flip the disk over and double the capacity on the back again). Final result possibly up to 17GB!! on a single DVD disk. Both can be sensitive to dirt or scratches. I have read some articles that say dvd disks are a bit tougher. The basic reading technologies are the same. All dvd drives are fully backward compatible with CD's.[8D]
