Officers of L'Armée du Rhin! Your services are needed at the venerable training institution that provides our fine army with new officers, L'Ecole de Mars. The Ecole is in need of additional instructors. Requirements are regular availability, a desire to teach and to share experiences, and feeling comfortable with the mechanisms of either the BG or the HPS series (or preferably both) and with some basic tactical concepts (as well as being an overall nice and sociable person, good communicator, skilled orator and gifted writer ... oops, got carried away there [;)]). There is no rank requirement, nor does one have to be a second Napoleon to teach at the Ecole. We are providing cadets with the fundamentals of setting up a game, exchanging PBEM files, moving their troops in the field, keeping them supplied and commanded, and some basics about the use of the various combat arms. We also strive to involve cadets in the club life and help them to get acquainted with the rules and customs. So, anybody who feels at home and comfortable in this club and has played enough games to be familiar with the basics should have what it needs to do this job. (In my personal experience BTW teaching others tends to improve the own performance, as one is forced to think about a lot of things the first time when called upon to explain them. [8)]) The faculty of the Ecole consists of seven experienced officers who would welcome some dedicated reinforcements to ease the burden on everyone. The veterans will be happy to share their experience not only with the cadets but likewise with their new peers. So if you are ready to join this elite corps, to contribute your share to promoting and improving your army and the club as a whole, here is your chance. [^] (I should probably mention that there is some sort of pay, though if you ask me how much it is I have to admit I am at a loss. Reckon the honor of helping out and providing the army with a bunch of grateful cadets who will sing your praises for ever and ever should be enough of a reward. Hi Dierk, I offered my services a few months back on Pierre's tavern, but never heard anything. Anyway, I'd be willing to help as I can, but I only play the HPS titles now. Regards, Rich Gen. General Walter, I also have offered my services to the Ecole but have been informed it's just for members of the AdR. I am still willing to serve. Sir Muddy, I have also been teaching some of your recruits. I would be happy to formalize it! Rich--thanks for offering. You have mail. [^] Ken--by all means! I suppose after their graduation they'll be happy to be taught some tricks. (Our job is to make sure they can return the courtesy.) [8D] General Fuller--I wouldn't see why a French officer shouldn't be allowed to teach at a French school. I know of no law against it. [:I] As a matter of courtesy, why not write to your army commander, CC'ing the commander of the AdR and me, and formally ask for his permission to teach at the Ecole. I wouldn't see why he should refuse you.
Général de Division D.S. Let me rephrase one thing and reiterate another: 1) We require *primarily* instructors who feel comfortable with the *HPS* engine, as that's where we are currently a bit shorthanded. All the veterans on the team learned their trade on the BG engine. 2) In spite of two generals having offered so far, there is absolutely no rank requirement. I'll be happy to have a major teach lieutenants if he just is regularly available & comfortable with sharing his experiences. (Some peoples skills are of course helpful.) Again, this is not the War Academy. It's just about giving our cadets a good start in the club. [:)]
Général de Division D.S. What, that's all? Where all those enthusiastic young officers in the Armee du Rhin who want to make this club and army better by sharing some of their experiences with newbies? [:0] Come on, sirs--don't be shy. Don't hesitate. The club, the army, the Empire and humankind as such (hm, am I laying it on too thick now? [;)]) need your help. When I read the roster of the AdR, there are the names of many, many skilled officers of all ranks and experience. Training a new cadet is the easiest way to ensure the continued strength of the Armee, not to mention the club as a whole. If you have never served as a training officer, please consider stepping forward and helping out. It is not a lifetime position, but we would like to have a solid roster to draw from. Training is really no more than a regular game with an ongoing discussion during the email exchanges. I also found that my (admittedly long winded at times) explanations of mechanics or tactics actually helped improve my own game. And if I may add, the more trainers we can get, the less work it is on all of us, as we can each carry 1 cadet at a time. So don't be shy, step up and lend a hand! [8D] Gen. Hamilton, Baron d'Barbancon 21st Division VII Corps, ADR Saxon Leib-Garde, de la Jeune Garde, Garde Impériale ![]() |

Thank you, Maréchal Thayer. Actually the call is for AdR officers, but naturally, just like General Fuller, you are most welcome if you are willing to help out a sister army. We still require more instructors. There has been an almost overwhelming influx of new cadets eager to join the ranks of the AdR in the last weeks and the present staff is at the limit - especially considering that for some strange reason all the latest enlistments were by cadets who own only the BG games. [:0] Step forward, brave officers of the AdR, and support your army by sharing your experience. Every officer who feels familiar with gameplay and some tactics, totally regardless of his own win/loss record, should be able to give basic training to a newly enlisted cadet. Don't hesitate. Your army needs you now!! [:)]
Général de Division D.S.
