Allied Friends: Raise your glasses (yes, I will pay the bar tab) to my Archduke Charles and his Austrian soldiers who have defeated the Emperor of France and his Grand Armee in a combined Campaign of Eckmuhl and Wagram. The French forces were well led by Marechal Jon Thayer (salute). The Eckmuhl Campaign was particularly difficult. Each battle was hard fought and nearly all resulted in a draw. And so, we moved on towards Vienna and the climactic battle of Wagram. At Wagram, Napoleon's main body moved down the north side of the Danube hoping to link up with Davout's Corps that was attempting to cross the river from Labou Island. After fierce fighting, Aspern fell to the French but Napoleon could not push the fight further without the aid of his other corps. Fortunately, the Archduke's forces successfully contested the crossing of the Danube and the Emperor was forced to concede defeat -- his throne in jeapordy. I would like to congratulate M. Thayer on a very hard fought campaign. As I said, the Eckmuhl Campaign proved to be a particularly tough series of engagements wherein neither side could win a decisive victory. In the end, the Danube proved to be the decisive factor. So drink up lads, to a major campaign victory and to a very talented French officer -- Jon Thayer.
