Still another entry into the HPS artwork category. This time its the 2d Zoom In view for roads, pikes, paths. I modified the existing files to be more prominent. You may not like my scheme - if so put your own together and send me a set! This one really helps me see the roads better and while not perfect does help me in putting maps together and in doing the checking of my work. A sample pic can be found at: http://www.fireandmelee.net/nap_art/2d_roads.jpg The pack is at: www.fireandmelee.net/nap_art/2DRoads.zip Instructions: 1. Go into any of Nap games and open the Map folder. 2. Find the following files: 2DPaths100.bmp 2DRoads100.bmp 2DMain100.bmp (this one is for Pikes) 3. Rename them to something like Stock_<filename> ex. Stock_2DPaths100.bmp 4. Extract the three files in the zip to the Map folder. 5. Open your game up and take a peek at the 2d Zoom In View. I havent put a 2D Zoom Out view set of files together. Really rather easy but frankly it didnt appeal to me when I looked at it as much as the older scheme. Perhaps I had blury eyes at the time ... [:D] I wonder why .... (burning the wargame design candle far too long ...) Has anyone downloaded this set and if so did you like it? I wont comment on this again - will let it settle to the bottom unless someone replies. Bill Peters HPS Napoleonic Scenario Designer (Eckmuhl, Wagram) Fire and Melee Wargame site |

Looks good Bill. I previously darkened the bitmaps using paint and that helped a great deal. These are nice. I tried them in 50 size which are better for the roads but are not as nice as you mentioned. I modified them to 2d50 size try them if you like. http://www.wargame.ch/wc/nwc/2d50roads.zip Thanks again. Chef de Battalion Pierre D. 1. Brigade, 22. Division VII Saxon Corps Armee du Rhin |

Your upgrade looks good. I would like to see much the same thing done to the roads on the zoom out screen. It would also be cool if the screen zoomed out to fill the page. I don't know if this is possible. Marechal Jonathan Thayer Moyenne Garde Duc de Saalfeld et Prince de Friedland 10/III Armee du Nord jonathanthayer@bellsouth.net |

I will answer each of you in order: John: get yourself a copy of LViewPro. Then open up the particular file for the artwork and you will note how a color is actually composed of different colored pixels. In this case I added a dark border around the Roads, turned the Paths from browns and blacks to solid black and then added a white border around the pike terrain. I would like to touch up part of the Road symbols. Looks like someone left a pile of turds by the side of the road!!! [:D] Anyway, that is how I edited the files. Pierre: I downloaded the set and tried them out. They look fine but of course at the level dont make as much of an impact as at the 2d Zoom In view. Jon: I know what you are saying. In the game the map when zoomed is scaled thus a small map's jump map shows more detail while something like the Bavaria.map from Eckmuhl is harder to discern. I wont bring this to John for my next title but will discuss it with him for something down the road. For huge maps like in Eckmuhl and Waterloo, there is a real gap between the 2D zoomout and the jump map. For planning purposes, the former has much to small a portion of the map even on a large screen and the latter while showing the whole map has way too little detail to see more than the pikes and rivers. <center> D.S. John, I added them to Gettysburg. There is a difference in files between the two games. Don't remember them off hand. I like them because the roads and trails are much easier to see although the pikes are not as prominent. http://www.wargame.ch/wc/nwc/ACWartroads.zip Try them if you like. Remember they overwrite the originals. The originals are always on the CD if you need to change them back. Chef de Battalion Pierre D. 1. Brigade, 22. Division VII Saxon Corps Armee du Rhin |

Just seeing your question John - no, you cant use these with the ACW games. If you have a nickel I might fix up a set for that game series! Canadian nickels are ok! Bill Peters HPS Napoleonic Scenario Designer (Eckmuhl, Wagram) Fire and Melee Wargame site |

I'm using some modified 2d files that I found a while ago at SZO (http://www.strategyzoneonline.com/forum ... o=cat&id=4) and they are similar to what you've done Bill, and very helpful with much clearer roads and paths. I can't remember exactly who created them, or if they were for the ACW or Napoleonic games, as I use a cocktail of mods from various people in both engines. Actually I think they are from the ACW section. They are interchangeable between the two game engines if you rename one or two of them - I think one has 'main' in the filename for the main roads and the other has 'pike', something like that. If you look at them in a graphics viewer program you can soon see what is what and rename accordingly. <center>Lieutenant Colonel Antony Barlow ~ 2nd British (Union) Brigade, Anglo-Allied Cavalry Corps ~ ~ 4th (Royal Irish) Dragoon Guards ~ ![]() |
