Does anyone know how stack firing works (selecting more than one unit in a hex and firing them all at once)? I would hope that it just works out each individual shot and throws the results together, but I am afraid that it doesnt do that. |

Each unit fires on its own - then the total casualty count is listed and subtracted from the target unit. Advantage to stack firing is time spent with game and it saves you on return defender fire. Firing units individually has the benefit of causing more than one unit to have to check for morale in the beginning of their player turn. Downside is that you may get fired at by more than one unit and possibly disorder. Stack firing to me is terribly unhistorical. On the other hand this is a GAME and alot of things are not historical about it. However, as a simulation it does give a good feel for the period. To each his own is the standard rule on whether to allow stack firing. I have NEVER heard of a House Rule between players that spelled out anything about stack fire. BTW in the Nappy engine you won't be able to fire in stack with several units in line formation. Still it's possible to fire all of them changing stacking order manually. But it will decrease firepower significantly. And it does seem gamey. As for the stack firing it may only occur with units in colomn or skirms (I suppose we all keep no more than one battery per hex[:I]) but it won't affect the result significantly, will it? <center> ![]() <center><b>Eyo Imperatorskogo Velichestva Leib-Kirassirskogo polku General-Mayor Anton Valeryevich Kosyanenko Commander of the Second Army of the West </b></center> |

I have another unrelated question. I was looking at the AI scripts for scenarios in the scenario editor, and I noticed that there are multiple scripts for the same scenario. Does the computer randomly choose one of them to use when you begin a new game? Or is there some way to decide yourself. |

See help nwedit.hlp under Dialogs -> Script Dialog which says near the top: A scenario may have one or more A/I Scripts. When the scenario is played using Automatic A/I, then one of these Scripts is chosen at random and used to conduct the A/I for that battle. I never tire of answering questions on the game as usually someone else has the same question. I also advocate that since you are very interested in the mechanics of the game that you pour over the Help files and read up on the game system. You will find a wealth of information in these docs. They do not tell you EVERYTHING but will answer alot of questions you have about the game and also help you to be a better player. I've read everything in the Nir.hlp notes.hlp and nbp.hlp files, and a lot of the nwedit.hlp. I got frustrated with how the AI sometimes really stinks and I guess now I should just delete all the scripts that arent any good. |
