Hi folks ... Does anyone have any info about the republishing of two classic games _ Battleground waterloo and Battleground Gettysburg? Apparently Matix games has aquired the old Talonsoft titles and is bolstering the game engine and making other changes. No release date yet. Since these titles were the raison d'etre (?) behind forming NWC years ago it will be interesting to see what they do to the game engine, especially when it comes to the AI. And for my money the maps of these old Tiller games were in a class all their own. Does anyone know anything about this? Regards, conjotter |

Yes, John Tiller agreed to help release these games for Matrix. Apparently his role is to get the installer to work for the newer Windows NT (32 bit, not sure about 64 bit which I have) along with a few other tasks for them. As far as I know there are no enhancements to the AI or game engine. His role was to merely help them get the game converted to the newer OS. If Matrix is going to do anything along those lines you could find out more about it from their forums. I have been reading it a bit from time to time. I remember fondly when we all got together and started this club off. Yes, the BG games are in a different class and have some features that are good but unless Matrix does something to improve the engine in certain areas I am not so sure that their sales will do well. I hope they do but when you are dealing with an older product ... The maps were great but try and replicate them on the scale we have done for the HPS games. The cost would be prohibitive. Now if we could get the same kind of 3d tile set as they had in the West Front game (campaign series by TS) that would help out a bit I would think. But those hand painted (by computer of course) maps were extremely time consuming and expensive. Which is why John Tiller moved away from them when he released Eckmuhl ...
