My suggestion about the using of AdCs "figures"for the more realistic improvement of HPS' Command&Control system didn't get any interest. Nobody wishes to trifle with those "Staff rats". OK. Let's use the present "dove mail" system of commanding.[:D] But everybody values the importance of reconnaissance in our "foggy" battlefields, and everybody knows the company of infantrymen or squadron of cavalrymen are too bulky and attackable for that kind of mission. May be a corps of AdCs/Guides/Quatermeisters from Division/Corps/Army Staff could do it better? "Figures" of cavalrymen with the practicability of skirmishers and movementability of Division/Corps/Army commanding officers. The realistic, historicly approved and very helpful idea, I believe. I don't think ADCs went roaming around the countryside w/o protection -which would happen in our games. They were attached to cavalry squadrons because a commander usually trusted them more than line officers, plus they had broader picture of the current situation around them. And after all reconnaissance and screaming of their own army was always the main task of light cavalry. I think current situation is perfectly fine, I can do fine recon with just a few squadrons. Both unhistorical. ADCs were really sent for recon missions. Sometimes with no cover - when there was no danger. But usually they were really protected by cavalry. But not squadrons - mere platoons. Just read about the actions of cossacks here and there you meet expressions like (captured 30-40 men and one staff officer, or engeneer, or ADC). Difference is obvious. The thing really needed IMO is a formation for cavalry that would allow to pass across the streams and through the woods with no disruption, i.e. open order for cavalry.
![]()
Eyo Imperatorskogo Velichestva Leib-Kirassirskogo polku General-Mayor Anton Valeryevich Kosyanenko Commander of the Second Army of the West
|

I can imagine 40men squadrons crossing rivers one at a time without disruption, but 400-600 men detachments or stacked squadrons? And in woods in particular? I just can't imagine that. Cadet Rafal Wertygus Ecole Militaire |

Take a look at my scenarios for Eckmuhl. "April Fools" is one title, I think. They're located at the Games Squad forum. You'll find HQ staffs for both countries at all levels. Colonel Al Amos 1erè Brigade Commandant 2ème Division de Dragons |
