Leadership wise the French were better, I think Davout proved that. As for man to man, I think I also would have to give the French the edge, especially Davout's III Corps. The Prussians marched under a legend that was built by Frederick the Great, even Napoleon had some fears at first facing the Prussians. Historically, the Saxon Horse were that good, especially at this early point in the wars before they got ground into the dirt by attrition and whatnot. Feldmarschall Freiherr Gary McClellan Generalissimus Imperial Austrian Army Portner Grenadier Bn Allied Coalition C-in-C |

There is a big difference between Allied cavalry and their infantry. My notes explain the reasons why I chose the morale grades that I did. Partly because we saw units reorder on the same turn that I reduced the morales a bit. The French have more leaders. Usually every cavalry brigade has 3 leaders - one for each regiment and one for the brigade leader. This increases the morale by one. They also have longer command ranges which means that they can range further from their brigade leader than the Allies can. The Allies have higher morale per unit. If you note the infantry at Jena stood for hours under fire but didnt break until the end. The French on the other hand had alot of respect for their lines. They skirmished with them for hours. These same battalians were able to hold back Lannes and Ney until more forces came on line. As to the cavalry: the French were on poor mounts to say the least. This is pretty well documented. Once they conquered Prussia they took much of the horse stock and remounted. During developement we discussed what a Heavy cavalry type was and I was for not giving that label to some of the French cavalry but in the end we decided that the lower morales were enough. Thus where you see the advantage is in command values. If a Prussian routs there are few leaders that will have a Leadership rating high enough to benefit the unit. You will still get the Corps/Army benefit of being adjacent or on the stack. Same goes for Command ratings. Very low and once a Prussian disorders its harder for him to recover than his French counterpart. I am fighting Jim Woods at the historical battle and if I find a way to beat him I will contact you. One thing I know: the French cannot attack early on. They must wait for more forces to come up. Attacking early on is asking for a [B)] Just ask Tomasz! [:D] He gave me a really nice "shiner" in our game. Bar keep a small glass of rum for me why do I feel I just brought a use car : The advantage lays in the Brigade move over the regimental move mon ami if all the Prussian can move freely then there is no advantage leadership or not which the Prussian Army had none! Why can't the system be up dated ? Col de Art 6/3 II Corps AN Marbot CS |

Two fighting styles opposed On one side, among the soldiers of the Grande Armée, we find enthusiasm for the Emperor, speed, courage, flexibility in action, and dynamism; on the Prussian side – courage, inflexibility and sluggishness. The French troops “did not play the game†|
