Ok, what is the furthest you have gotten in the Jena campaign called the Scharnhorst Plan? Has anyone gotten to the second battle yet?

I plan on putting up a Challenge for the newer campaign I did for this one (first scenario is much shorter). I want to see how the battles when linked, work out for the overall effect ...

Still on the first battle of the alt Scharnhorst's Plan I'm afraid as my opponent has been busy with real life for a while.

For those of you interested in skipping the first battle .... I am going to put together a new campaign that will give you new choices whereby the first battle will be bypassed.

It assumes that Scharnhorst's Plan was followed in total and thus the Prussians will retreat towards the Russians and eventually a big battle will occur to the east.

Bill,

Do any of the Jena games allow cavalry to be broken down as squadrons and reformed?

I think having all the cavalry unable to reform is a little bit of a letdown.

I like the control of having the regiment as one until needing to split it for recon or battle, and when I decide.

Each regiment is broken down into squadrons in the OB.

Then you can break them down into platoons (2 for each sq.).

This allowed me to model the armies more accurately.

Some have wanted an OB that has the cavalry in regiments. I open the floor to anyone that wants to do that. Rich has asked me to do it but I would prefer to move on to other games. I am sure that some enterprising soul will put one together eventually.

Col. Burr,

To expand on Bill's reply, using a Squadron Based OOB was the only way to accurately reflect the significant differences between the various cavalry regiments on both sides. For instance, 12 of the Prussian Dragoon rgts had 5 sqds, for a total TOE strength of 841 men, but the Konigin & Auer Dragoon rgts had 10 sqds, for a total TOE strength of 1,682 men. Moreover, whereas Prussian rgts had either 10 or 5 sqds, French rgts generally had 4 sqds.

Additionally, this OOB more accurately reflects the practice of the period since the squadron, not the regiment, was the basic tactical unit for the mounted arm, much like the battalion amongst the infantry.

Paco

Paco,

That is all well and good, but it would have been better to have available both scenarios. It should be up to the commander how he wants to run his cavalry. I don't see the point of having a skirmish button or squadron button if it cannot be used.

Nothing will match history perfectly, I am just pointing out that it is better to let players decide. I respect the designers decisions, but I still believe in having both scenarios.

You could say the exact same for skirmishers. And if you look over the Austrian games, usually there are 2 versions, one where skirmishers are restricted, and the same scenario where they are not.

The more what if's, the more fun.

Game is still very good, just suggesting keeping an open mind in design and giving the most options.

Sorry Aaron but just too much work to do two sets.

Really, the game is loaded with lots of maps and things. Get out Word Pad and make a copy of the file and merge the regiments. Toss the units out on the map using the Scenario Editor and have fun.

Bill,

One day I will, afer I finish playing all the ones I got.

Keep up the good work, maybe we will see a shift from ACW to Nappy titles once HPS churns out the last ACW titles. There cannot be many left.

So much potential worldwide if they start giving us some Nappy titles...
