A group of Allied officers, including FM Sir Muddy Jones, were seated at a table in the Tavern. Of a sudden, there was much commotion near the door. A crowd of French officers, many Marechals among them, were cheering and making much celebration around a central figure, hidden from view because of the crowd.

"Its just another Frenchman come to sing the Emperor's praises" one of the Allied officers said. Then the crowd parted and the object of their adoration was revealed... it was Marechal Jeff Bardon, one of the Empire's most successful and feared commanders, and First victor of the Master of Europe Tournament.

"This is not just another baton twirler", conceded Sir Muddy,
"Marechal Bardon is truly one of the Emperor's best. I have never defeated him and any Allied officer would be wise to steer clear of his path. Then again, times have changed. The old battle system has been replaced by new tactics. Perhaps he will be less invincible now."

Marechal Bardon glanced in the direction of the Allied table as he made his way to the bar. Sir Muddy raised his glass in recognition and admiration and drank to his health. Perhaps they would meet again after all...

The battle scarred grognard scanned the tavern, taking in the familiar sights and sounds. Friends and foes alike gathered at the bar, no doubt as interested in the cause of the celebration as the chance to drain Général Lamezec's purse or a glass of Maréchal Palomo's prized cordon rouge.

Before making his way to his old spot by the fire, and in the process subtly convincing a hapless Ensign and a young Kadet that discretion is the truest form of Allied valour, he turned to those in attendance, "It is good to be back. My sword has been sheathed for far too long. Once more, the call of la gloire must be answered. Besides, rumor has it that Sir Muddy has been charging his bill to my tab, and despite the immense wealth accumulated at the expense of the Coalition, I cannot let that pass by unchallenged."

With that, he took his accustomed place at the fire and began draining the first of many pints that evening.

I would like to also give a warm welcome to Marechal Bardon as he joins the ranks of I Corp. He will immediately take over the 1er Division d'Cavalerie Legere, I Corp, AdN. I expect the Light Cavalry Division to sweep all before it, especially shopkeepers and other associated rabble.

Another round on me!

For those new NWC members, Jeff's been a long time veteran. Here's an article written by him back in 2000, and he was a General even back then!
