Reading a new book I received. The Fall of Napoleon, The Allied Invasion of France 1813-1814, by Michael V. Leggiere. So far it seems to take the early campaign and breaks it down into smaller detail than other books I have read. He seems to be very critical of Napoleon's Marshals, as I think many of them deserved, even though I think it goes to prove my point that Napoleon's biggest mistakes was the selections of his marshals for certain key positions. Right now it is the toughest on Marshal Victor. It also shows how Napoleon's absence from the field early on left his marshals (who were not the best at independent action in this case)with orders that sometimes were outdated before they were received. It also points out how many of his marshals did not see the big picture nor did Napoleon relay this. Maréchal Tony R.Malone, Comte d'Auvergne et Duc de Vauchamps: Division d'Infanterie de la Moyenne Garde; "The Guard may die, But it never surrenders". ![]() |

Thanks for the info Tony I think I'll buy this one soon. Can't get enough of Napoleonic books at the moment but it can be a drag with too many books and not enough time to read them. Remaining with the subject [books], there are many good ones about Waterloo and some not so good but I'm reading one at the moment...<font color="orange">'THE BATTLE, A history of the Battle of Waterloo' by Alessandro Barbero</font id="orange"> and so far it's a thoroughly good read. I'm taking a chance in suggesting this one as I'm only into the first few chapters but if it continues as it started then I can recommend it to anyone interested in the battle. <font color="orange">Captain John Sheffield 1st Btn/91 Regiment of Foot <font color="white"> [Argyllshire Highlanders]</font id="white"> 6th British Brigade/4th Infantry Division/<b> II CORPS / </b></font id="orange"><b><font color="red">ANGLO-ALLIED ARMY.</font id="red"></b> <font color="yellow"> "Among these respectable warriors, the Scotch [Scots] deserve to be particularly commemorated; and this honourable mention, is due to their discipline, their mildness, their patience, their humanity, and their bravery without example."
