Post subject:  formations????

Monsieur’s when I was in table top we had the French in 1806 in a 5company front four company deep! Later the elites were put in the rear that made it four company front four deep that would give them the advantage in fire over other nations in attack formation. Now the allies were different the Austrian with the 16 man batt the Russian 8 and Prussian 10 but 2 - 5deep. Why do I see all Nations the same attack formation with the same amount of guns to bear ?

The game has its abstractions.

Now there is a column fire modifier that reduces the number of men eligible to fire. It is in the pdt file, and can be set per side/country to some extent.

Al answered your question. Why do you think he was joking or trying to be funny?

If you want something different and your opponent is fine with the change, then YOU can change the PDT file.

Monsieur now that sounds reasonable not every one understands just what some of the older members are talking about. I for one didn't! Now I do but it was much easier if the formations followed the way they were not by asking first can we have a historial formation to another player that to me can bring up a no play! He all are not on the same page game wise or computer wisdom just like in life. It only tacks a min to explain with out going on in outerspace!

Monsieur’s to any that would like to know we mounted the 1806 French with 12 men each fig = 60 men. That would give you in an attack col with a five company front 300 men firing. Now an 1806 line 12x60! The Prussian army of 1806 was two company front attack formation 2x60 their line formation would be ten men or ten company front that is why they moved in line formation or 600 man front. This was Scott Bowden’s rules for 15mm min play Empire rules .

Yes Cliff and you can model this in the game as well. Just copy any PDT file from Jena, modify the line that you where you see this text:

100 2 3 3 4 5 2 3 3 4 5 2 3 3 4 5
100 0 0 40 15 0 10 20 20 0 0 5
6 1 -10
1
8 8 8
4 4 4 - this is the line you want to modify
30 80
7 7 9
0
1 1806 10 10 2 0 100 1 125 100 -10 0 Fog/Damp

And the order is:
Prussian
French
Russian

You could make the Russians 6, Prussians 4 and French 3 if you like.

Yes, 4 is the divisor.

Thus the total strength of the unit would be divided by 4.

This reduces the firepower of the unit and simulates a frontage of 1/4 the number of companies.

So a 9 company unit would deploy 2 companies to its front.

If you used "3" that would mean a 3 company wide column for the same 9 company unit.

Otherwise the game doesnt make any difference in nationality and we have no plans to go that route.

If you like accuracy you could try one of Rich White's company level scenarios for Waterloo or the ones I did for Wagram.

Mesi Mon ami an there is a mark differents in broad game and Mig gameing. As an old garcon it's hard to get away from the days when you met on the field of battle with a whole Corps and its Cheval. With the Old Glory fig that you sent hours painting to move like you were there. Ten long years and many battles is hard to forget now those days are gone and now all I have is a TV to look at! I miss those days too. Setting up a charge with my Polish Lancers. Forming up a grand battery of Prussian guns.

It was alot of fun!

My eyes dont miss the painting though! After awhile they would start to hurt.
