Post subject:  Questions about HPS Eckmuhl

I have sent these questions off to HPS Support as well, but people here might be able to answer them too:

I'm in the middle of four battles (1 NIR and 3 Eckmuhl) at the moment and enjoying very much learning how to use the HPS system.

I would be very thankful if anyone can offer answers for any of the following questions:

1. Can HOTKEYS be created by me?

2. I want hotkeys so I can toggle beteen the items along the command bar. I regularly want to cycle through DISORDERS, LOS, ORGANISATION, for example. It's a pill having to use the mouse all the time.

3. SPACE brings up the names of locations. Is there a key to bring up the names/units of commanders? They're very fiddly and I want to find them quicker.

4. Using the N button is good but is there a way to go backwards (other than using the mouse)?

...to be continued..

I am afraid the answer is NO on all these questions.

Unfortunately the answer from HPS Help is the same:

"Thanks for the note and glad you are enjoying our Napoleonic games. Unfortunately you can not do any of these things you have mentioned. Will keep these things in mind for future enhancements though."

Alas. Gotta give it only 6/10 for the interface then, eh. :(

On your third point, however, maybe using "highlight organisation" together with "show command range" and "leaders on top" (in 2D) will help you keep your units together. Consider also "brigade colors" (although they look ugly to my eyes).

Keystrokes:

To see Disordered units:
1. Alt V
2. H
3. D
4. Enter

Etc.

Each of view choices you want can be done in this manner. Its not the fastest way possible but its better for those that like key boards and dont want to use a mouse.

It took me about 2 seconds to run the above keystrokes.

I am finding it easier to manage the organisations - especially in 2D with one of the MODs from.. I think Gamesquad.. which makes organisation highlights very clear.

In Combat Mission, which is about the only other computer game I'm familiar with, there are plenty of hotkeys available through direct letters, SHIFT+letter or a few via ALT+letter. It's very convenient once you're used to it and quick to use. I naively look for similar convenience here.

Thanks Bill (yet again). In lieu of a direct hotkey, it's better than you might think. ;)
