Battle of Abensberg after action report.

The French attempt to capture the crossroads at Abensberg resulted in clash between Austrian units located in and south of the town and units of the Army d'Itale and the Army Dalmatia. After initial successes by French and Italian units to capture the crossroads on the eastside of town and objectives south of town, they were driven back to the outskirts of Abensberg by a determine Austrian couterattack. After a lull in the fighting where both sides accomplished a realignment of forces, French units repeatedly assulted Abensberg in an attempt to expell the Austrians. Fierce hand-to-hand fighting resulted as Austrian forces repeatedly reinforced their center preventing the French from achieving their main objective. As fighting ended, Austria retained control of the Abensberg crossroads, but due to heavy Austrian casualties and fatigue, plus the loss of secondary objectives south of the town, there was no clear victory.

Is there a round 2?

Game 1 Turn 14 (Game ended):

One of the games (me as French) has ended, I resigned. My early attack on Abensberg was not enough to take and hold the objective. Austrian counter attacks have forced me to withdraw with no hope in further attacks. Here is the final score from that:

John French: inf loss  4569 182 pts

                    art loss      8   40 pts

Robert Austrian: inf loss  3214 129 pts

                        art loss       4   20 pts

Final -74 French minor defeat

Other game is still going

Game 2 Turn 15:

Robert French: inf 4704 188 pts

                      art      1    5 pts

John Austrian: inf 4958  198 pts

                     art     14  70 pts

                     ldr       1    3 pts

Final 1178 French minor victory.

French units have taken objective hex in Abensberg and are holding. Austrian units re-grouping for counter attack. Past 30 minutes have seen a lull in the action around Abensberg while both side recover from units routing. In the south Oetzenbach has been taken by the French. Small Austrian force is falling back under pressure from superior French forces.

Artillery losses: 12,     Artillery point loss: 60

Situation report:  The French Army is pressing the attack on Avensberg. The objective hex has been taken. Austrian units are regrouping and have begun a counter attack on their right flank. In the south the Austrians have begun to fall back to the vicinity of Oetzenbach after the French successfully assaulted the Austrian flank.
