Post subject:  CSA Cabinet Secretary Election

Gentlemen of the South (sorry, Yanks, you get to sit this one out):

With the recent election of Nick Kunz as the Chief of the Armies of the Confederate States of America, the seat he held as a Cabinet Secretary has become vacant. Jon Cuneo has been filling this seat on an interim basis, but we need to elect someone permanently to fulfill the remainder of Gen. Kunz' term.

I have asked Nick Kunz and Jeff Laub to join me in serving on the election committee.

Here is the schedule for the election:

Nominations (by 2 officers): From Tuesday, June 5 through Saturday, June 16. (Per club rule 3.3.4.2.3, nominations must be submitted to the entire Cabinet to be valid.)

Campaigning: From Sunday, June 17 through Saturday, June 23

Voting (votes to be submitted to the election committee -- Kunz, Laub, and myself -- for counting): From Sunday, June 24 through Saturday, June 30.

The winning candidate would take office on Sunday, July 1, and would fill the remainder of Nick's Cabinet Secretary term, through January 1, 2009. (Note that this is not for a full 2-year term, but for the remainder of the term of the seat vacated by Nick when he moved into the CoA position.)

The first step, as noted above, is to submit nominations. If you are interested in the position and are eligible to serve (see club rule section 3.3.4.2 for eligibility requirements), have two CSA officers submit your name, via e-mail, to the Cabinet. It is perfectly acceptable for them to 'cc' you and even each other. (If you're either not eligible or not able to serve at this time, consider encouraging someone else to run by offering to nominate them.)

Once a nomination is received, someone from the Cabinet will respond and let you know the nomination has been received. If you have not heard from anyone after 24 hours, please contact me directly and we'll track down the problem.

A list of current Cabinet members may be found at http://www.wargame.ch/wc/acw/Cabinet.htm (We may be a bit behind on the positions each of the Cabinet members holds, but these are the current members. Remember, nominations must be sent to the entire group.)

Once a nomination has been received and the officer's eligibility verified, that nomination will be listed here so everyone will know who is in the running.

If you have any questions, please contact me.

Your humble servant,
Gen 'Dee Dubya' Mallory

Gentlemen,

Remember club rule 3.3.4.2, Campaigning: "Once the candidates are determined, each will be encouraged to post one campaign message thread at the Smoking Room for any information he would like to share. Supporters may add to the thread. In the club spirit of behaving like gentlemen, however, negative statements regarding other candidates are highly discouraged. Posts in violation of this rule are subject to removal."

General Cuneo and Colonel Quick have been reminded of this rule and invited to post an introduction of themselves at the Smoking Room, for the benefit of those Rebel officers who may not already be familiar with the work of these two officers within the club.

Your humble servant,
Gen 'Dee Dubya' Mallory
