Are there any/many documented cases of Divisional/Corps/Army supply trains actually being destroyed by their own side to prevent capture, during the ACW? The supply wagons we have in the game are a very abstract representation of the actual supply system that would have been involved. I can imagine ...

Hmmm [?] It's interesting to ponder the whole nature of wargaming as a hobby. Do we 'play games'? or do we try to simulate tactics and strategy? Personally, I think that the 'popular' subjects for wargaming titles such as Waterloo & Gettysburg are supported in their position at the top precisely bec...

Can anyone explain the reasons for the differences in the Armies fielded by North & South during the civil war? I mean, for so long the Union persisted with undersized Divisions of two Brigades whilst, despite being the one's with more of a manpower challenge, the Rebs seem to a have gone for the mu...

Of all the scenario's on any of the old Talonsoft BG games, The Battle of Prairie Grove on BG Shiloh was...for some reason...my favourite! Now I have a copy of HPS Ozark I would like to find an opponent to test me on this version of the battle. Historical or variant, any optional rules setup, I don'...

LUCK? It's hard to seriously rate a commanders performance on that basis, but Gen. Lee was certainly 'lucky' wasn't he? A huge amount is made of Lee's professionalism and competence, his handling of situations at Strategic, Operational and Tactical levels. But they call him the 'Marble Man' don't th...

Robert Edward Lee is the most overrated Military commander to have emerged from any conflict...not just the American civil war. The man himself is now so surrounded with adulation as to be almost a legendary figure. Not doubting the merits of the man's personal qualities, but has ever a general from...

Gen. Sherman. He deserves the accolade of being the first 'modern' general. He seems to be the only individual who fully understood how to apply the forces available to him. It's easy to imagine him still being an able commander 60 years later for the battles of WWI? Colonel Jim Wilkes. 2nd Brigade,...

Can anyone explain in simple terms, or point me to the correct part of the game manual for an explanation on the limits of Bridges within the games? What do the bridge 'strength' points mean in game terms? and how do I interpret them as far as bridge repair goes? I'm playing a game where there are a...

No. From what I understand...and I've just gone away to check on the rules sections to make sure...Leaders and Supply Wagons have no facing, they receive no penalty or benefit from their facing direction and it costs no movement points to change direction for them either. It's purely 'cosmetic'. I n...

I'm playing one of the big scenario's on the HPS Gettysburg disk: Armageddon on the Potomac. It's 272 turns long and is the kind of situation that I normally steer well clear of. I'm playing as Union and am having to effect a crossing of the Antietam creek against a full strength Rebel army that is ...
