About Port Stanley. I am in the credits as the original graphics designer and probably in the playtester list too, though I also did some of the game development with my friend Albert Parker who was the one who came up with the idea and concept for the game. Albert, an old gaming friend moved away t...

Mr. Whitehead. I have been playing those games and many, many others for 49 years...my first game was Tactics II, 1958, a Freshman in high school. In fact I still have a collection of over 300 games of every era (actually down from over 500 at one time...thank God for eBay). With all due respect, I ...

Thank you sir, for graciously answering my post which could have provoked, "Tom, would you like a little cheese with that whine?" [:)] and thinking that my suggestion for an exit poll was a sensible idea. Thanks most of all for for dignifying my perception of imbalance [in the games, not myself] [:I...

You don't think that maybe the "fun" factor and the inability to find opponents may be related to so many seemingly grossly imbalanced scenarios? Ever do an exit poll to see why guys leave the club? That might provide some insight. When you say the membership is "shrinking" is that because people ar...

Thank you Ernie, as always, very helpful. For now I think it is NOT a hardware program but a software problem. I think I mentioned that I was ill-advised in using a registry clean up program. I never should have done so. I usually subscribed to the "if it ain't broke don't fix it" philosophy, but I ...

Looks like it was "registry" related...problem was Norton was missing some critical files and had to be re-installed (THREE TIMES...was the charm)[:)] If anyone recommends a "registry cleaning program" to you, unless you have complete confidence in whoever does, make sure you read up on the program ...

I thought this would be interesting to note after my earlier post and being confused about the new inclusion of spiking and its effects on the game; and in particular given all of the various discussions of the practice and its historic justification. I was reading an article in a back issue of the ...

Rich! [:I] IS MY FACE RED! I guess I haven't been reading carefully enough and went off "half-spiked. I always download the associated documentation files and what's new that you include with the patches. I had just jumped into this game not even realizing that the new patch included spiking and had...

Sirs. I must throw in with General Peters here. I have been content to only read about this spiking business until now...now that I have been the victim of having my artillery captured and spiked in the smae turn that they were captured. We are playing Devil's Den which it would have seemed had been...

I just "found" Talonsoft's BG Chickamauga, and Rich Hamliton's XP patch worked just fine. Are there any Rebs who have BGC and installed it successfully? And would like to try one of the more balanced battles? I am thinking from among the following: Crittenden's Attack My Poor Orphans What about the ...

Thanks men. And Rich, thanks again. I know you and I talked about VISTA and sandbagging a copy of XP for the next new machine but I was wondering if anyone else was despairing over the dim outlook for TS games. I very much appreciate the thoughtful responses. I would hope that there are least a few ...

A little early on this one but beginning to panic the more and more I hear about VISTA. Back in the club and playing the TS games again as well as HPS, I know it is inevitable that my next computer will likely ship with VISTA whether I want it or not. From what I am hearing, the TS games may not ins...

Thanks to all. We are trying all suggestions. And I did write to HPS but haven't heard an explanation yet if they have seen it. Also note that I have never gotten this message before resulting in closing any program that I can recall. It only happens trying to open this one fellow's pbem file. Tried...
