I don't think I had that game, since I was not into the Civil war at the time, more interested in WWII. I agree that a good Operational game is lacking. I always wanted to be able to see the big picture. It's nice to play Gettysburg, but how many people know were it is in relation to the overall the...

Hank,

I was aiming at everyone that does not use a proper signature which is your name rank and organization. It makes it very hard to know who we are addressing. You did add Hank so I knew to address you.

Hank, I was just asking the original poster of the thread to delete it as others have I believe. It's his choice to keep it or remove it. I think he has that right. You should be addressing him not me. I don't know why you are attacking me for censorship and bringing up past issues. Any past censors...

Al I think you hit the nail on the head. The forces are not used historically because the historical limitations are not present. The fact that we can control all of the forces and push them without consequences except for their elimination and a perhaps a loss game allows the players to do as he fe...

There are 5 posts on this thread from Cabinet members. I just suggested that Cabinet members add that they are a Cabinet member in their signature. I think that a higher profile for those that are not familiar with the names would be of great benefit. I am sure most don't know or remember who are in...

The Catton paperbacks series on the ACW were my first real introduction to the American Civil War. That seems a long time ago. They took me along a path that put me were I am today enjoying ACW games. Thanks Doug I don't always remember to look at them for references. Best Regards, General Pierre D....

Col. White, I have to state that simultaneous systems are not more realistic and certainly not more advanced. It is more of a question of preference then realism. They are a different way of playing. You still have the problem of the enemy not properly reacting to your move. You just react in differ...

Bill, I think that this is an important part of the series that is missing. You just can't fight till you have no more troops. What about not allowing units that have reached BCE to voluntarily move adjacent of an enemy unit and not melee. Units that are adjcent should also be forced to retreat. I k...

Whoever heard of a dead cavalryman!

Cavalry were more flexible as to how they could get out of trouble. I think that this is reflected in the inability to melee cavalry by infantry.

I think that the old TSS game had it closer to right. A morale check before melee, a Pin result, a melee only against units you fired on, retreat by prolonge for artillery, density and Brigade combat effectiveness. It has been dealt with before in boardgames. I can't see these as being overwhelming ...
