Unfortunately, it is probably a combination problem with my old 64MB video board, DX9 and Nvidia Drivers. When I say flicker I mean the whole screen turns white of a few seconds then the display returns for maybe a second then repeats until you have a headache[xx(]. And that is the low setting. I wi...

I got the game and was hoping to be able to comment on it. Unfortunately[:(], they really mean those minimum specs. When they say it requires a video card with 128MB you better have one if you don't want to watch flicker and crashes[xx(]. Be sure to check their site for the minimum computer requirem...

The designers (HPS's) comment was it was to simulate the tendancy of men to surrender rather than fight to the last man in hopeless situations. In BG games it is rather severe, automatic loss. For that matter just being surrounded by zones in BG games would result in loss of all troops if they lost ...

LC. Peters The problem I found with trying to play multiplayer with the phase system wasn't just the extra mailings. Because the game isn't set up for a replay of a phase one player is always blind to what actually happen in a phase since only one player can execute the end of the phase. In a small ...

The single phase system in HPS is pretty much useless except when needed for multiplayer games. The move/fight system is more appropriate to modern war games than Civil War. But if you forget that option exsists, then the HPS system fixes a number of problems and errors in the Battleground system. N...

As Patton said "make the other poor sob die for his country"[:D] but on a more useful note, it depends[:(]. Every situation requires different tactics but rule of thumb is don't use cavalry for infantry. Use infantry. Cavalry is best for scouting and delaying an approaching column. Generally keep yo...

If you are referring to the fire factors they are still in the pdt files (Confederate/Union Standard.pdt). If you are referring to the old Battleground Fire and Melee tables, HPS does use these. They use a formula that creates a low and high value based on adjusted factors then make a random roll to...

Just to check the obvious[:D], hit the refresh button on IE, you may be looking at the buffer copy.

If you are foolish[:D] enough to use the "Turn" based system, you want to fire them combined since they may trigger counter fire on each shot otherwise. Otherwise, HPS uses a formula to determine hits that unlike the Battleground tables produces the same result statistically whether you fire combine...

For something different about the CW I highly recommend "The Bloody Crucible of Courage" by Nosworthy. It's main focus is weapons and tactics but it is one of the reasons I became convinced that HPS's system better simulated CW than the Battleground series. The other book is "Lee's Real Plan at Gett...

But it's easy to fix in the HPS games, just turn on both Manual Defense Fire and Auto Defense Fire options and it goes away[^] and the game plays exactly like BG games[:)]. For that matter if you don't use Soft Zone option the HPS game is for all practical purposes exactly like the Battleground syst...

Overall I think the HPS system closed more loopholes than it openned compared to the BG system. The hard zones and fatigue levels created far worse exploitations than anything in the HPS system (as long as you ignore the Turn based option). I usually find having all options on produces a relatively ...

If you want Historical then stay away from "Turn Based" system. However, it does have one redeeming quality. We use it in the "Fight the War" campaign when the game is multiplayer. "Turn Based" does make playing a multiplayer (more than one player on each side) workable and as such a necessary evil ...

Unfortunately, the HPS and BG games have a rather simplistic model of LOS. The problem is not so much how far you can see but how good of information you can get from what you see. Second Manassas is a good example of seeing but not seeing. Someone on the Blue Ridge mountains can easily see to Richm...

First, because I saw some comments saying the single phase system is faster for email, it isn't. Playing with Manual Defense Fire OFF and Automatic Defense Fire ON (sometimes called Single Phase, I like Turn Based because there are no separate phases in each players turn) requires the same number of...
