Okay we have some discussion on attacking in column but any other house ruels that have been used? Also-Dierk how did you like your rules on forming up before attack? Did it make for a better game?

In the thread on Melees Bob Breen mentioned some possible house rules 1. Leadrs needed to melee 2. Only units of the same Brigade can melee the same hex. I was wondering what House Rules have actually been used in battles? I have used these rules 1. Units out of command radii may only move one hex a...

I think Kennon has said it best. What one can do and what one should do are not the same. I certainly agree with what melee represents ie. the effort to force a unit from its postion by the threat of heavy volly or attack and thus if we can despell the idea of melee always representing hand to hand ...

A recent player made a statement " these games are completley non-historical" I am taking him out of context here as he was referring to tactics but I was wondering- Do your battles turn out looking like the actual battles? I have most of my experoence on the fields and hills of Gettysburg and I wou...

Dale Nice post! I agree whole heartedly. While circumstances certainly existed to cause large routs, individual units just packing it in and retreating for no good reason just seems a bit unplausable, I think in most scenerios there should be no chance for a rout until a certain fatigue level is rea...

Kennon
Good stuff! I like the idea of disrupting and retreating three which could give the effects that General Mallory was talking about but without the strange looking dynamics that we see now.

Typical event. The Rebs approach the Union line. Bam!! They kill six Yanks(oh no!!). The Yank regiment panics( I mean it WAS six guys) and ROUTS!! Seven nearby regiments of course join them in the advance to the rear. Been there done that a gazillion times, no big deal my line will hold and eventual...

A nice compromise between realistic play and "gameyness" is a few house rules. I used to hate them but Jon Thayer and I tried some BGG games with command control rules and a few night rules. MUCH more realistic looking and yet outside of basic honesty you didnt have to be concerned with what your op...

I agree with Bill and Scott on Mirror matches leveling the playing field. It is also a good way to see how the other half lives in that each guy will obviously be playing the opposing side in one of the matches. It also requires a larger committment as you are indeed playing two matches.Having said ...

[}:)]I like good topics!! Honoring folks like Don Adams and Dierk Walter by public accolade is the least we can do for the men who so freely give of their time and skills.

[:D]Let me be the first to publically congratulate General Dierk Walter for receiving the MEDAL of HONOR!!! Dierk has done a fabulous job with the Union War College. He also has contrubuted in so many other ways ( he is the most prolific poster). On a personal note, not only has he been a real champ...
