There will be three Corps in the newly organized Army of Alabama.

Three high ranking officers in the Confederate army were born in Alabama:

B.G. John CC Sanders

Born: Tuscaloosa, AB
Battles: Seven Pines, Seven Days, Fredericksburg, Gettysburg, and Overland

M.G. Jones M Withers

Born: Huntsville, AB
Battles: Shiloh, Stones River, and Murfreesboro

B.G. Sterling AM Wood

Born: Florence, AB
Battles: Perryville, and Shiloh

Who is in favor of honoring the memory of those valiant officers with the names of the three Corps in the new Army of the Alabama?

<salute!>

General Klem,

Do you have a preference for which famous Confederate Officer to name the II Corps?

In the new reorg. General McOmish keeps the 1/1/1, so he will be in I Corps.

General McOmish makes a good point. Could "Colonel Saunders" be associated with chickens?

Let's agree it is up to the commander of each Corps - hopefully in counsel with his men to decide on a name.

My suggestion of tying the names to the known brave men of Alabama is just to get the discussion going.

"Withers' Warriors" or "Saunders' Soldiers" or "Woods' Volunteers". All just possibilities.

They will just be I Corps and II Corps and III Corps for now.

There is nothing wrong with just calling it say Saunder Corps - just simple as it was back in the day

I would personally like to keep it up to the Corp Commanders. But that's just me.

Lt. General Hovey has chosen the name "The Fighting First" for I Corps.

Congratulations I Corps! An excellent name selection.
