Gentlemen:

The matter is the emplacement of two Confederate Brigades in Vicksburg:

..."During the siege of Vicksburg Harris´Brigade held the left of the Confederate Line, the two regiments being stationed just the east of Fort Hill and the left of the Vaughn´s Tennessee Brigade"...*

*(Jeptha Vining Harris biography, " MORE GENEARLS IN GREY" by Bruce S. Allardice).
*("WAR OF REBELION", Official records of the Union and Confederate Armies,Vol.XXIV,Pt.2,p 337).

Thanks for the info. Can you provide more information? I had a hard time placing Harris' men. Bearss "Vicksburg Campaign" states that on May 19th these troops reported to Baldwin who placed them in reserve in ravines to the South of Fort Hill Ridge. My map shows an unnamed brigade in reserve behind and between Baldwin and Shoup (probably 3-4 hexes to the left of where they are now so I should move them some regardless).

Later it states that on May 20th Harris was moved from Baldwin's sector to Vaughs sector, which is probably what your reference refers to.

Anyhow, any help is appreciated. let me know what you find out.

thanks

General Kerns Sir:

This that you say is exact. The brigade of Harris was in reserve between Baldwin and Shoup (day 19th).
The problem that I see (If you do a scenario for the 20th)is that Harris was the 20 to the right of Fort
Hill and to the right of Harris it was Vaughn. Only 54th of Alabama and 6th of Mississippi and the artillery was located
between Fort Hill and the Mississippi.
I think this by the information that I have, but this is a battle
difficult to know all the data with exactitude and security.
I have too much work these days but I will try to look for the Battle of Viksburg information in my untid books.

Got it. I plan on making a May 22nd secnario and will certainly make sure that Harris is on the left flank. There is a good chance I may have missed this without your input.

Thanks
