Gentlemen,

I have received a dispatch from a missing officer -- General Lee Gast of the Army of the Cumberland. He sends his greetings to his army comrades and wishes them well on the battlefield.

General Gast continues with his teaching duties, but still hopes to return to the fight in the future. (Since he teaches mathematics, I expect he will be more of a 'Stonewall' Jackson than a Joshua Chamberlain, but then again his uniform is blue so who knows.)

There's always the possibility the dispatch was intended for someone in the Union command, but it was a Rebel cavalry regiment that brought it to my attention -- along with these fine cigars and this here bottle with the fancy label.

I told him I'd pass along his greetings [:)] !

Your humble servant,
Gen 'Dee Dubya' Mallory

Before the South writes off New Jersey, remember that prior to the War, a number of those fine Southern boys would routinely attend Princeton (I guess a few still do!) and if it was up to the Newark textile manufacturers New Jersey might have been in the Southern column when it came to picking sides.

And while a certain Union General did serve as New Jersey's Governor on more then one occassion NJ has demonstrated the ability to make bad choices in that office!

General Breen,

I just finished reading Stephen Sears' biography of 'Little Mac'. When I got to the part about NJ electing him Governor after the war I just shook my head and said, "What were they thinking? [:)]"
