C'mon, I can't believe I'm the first to post here about the new optional rules that came out with the latest Vicksburg update. There are now selections for the following:

Mounted Cavalry Skirmishers
Higher Disrupted Movement
Artillery Retreat by Prolonge

One of the guys at the GameSquad forums posted about them yesterday and said that the mounted cavalry skirmishers let you see ? at three hexes which will finally give the cavalry the ability to scout like they should have. Since I don't have Vista and didn't get the file saved from XP to let me use the help files can someone else go through the specifics on these new optional rules.

These are some of the upgrades we discussed on a previous thread.

1) With the cav skirmish, just check it on the optional rules. It works automatically. Don't attempt to put them in skirmish formation

2) The greater disruption MP rule will allow 3/4 instead of 50% MP

3) The arty prolonge is intended to allow arty to retire one hex to the rear without limbering. The arty cannot be disrupted, but will be disrupted after the prolonge. Can only retire to a clear hex on the same elevation or down elevation

I don't understand why you can't use the files.

There are 4 DOC files, one PDF and one TXT file that can all be read with any of the FREE tools that come with any operating system (Wordpad or Notepad) or that can be downloaded from Adobe (PDF).

The DOC and PDF files are duplicates of the HLP files.

Well I guess because I never thought of using one of them. Which thread were the new optional rules discussed in as I can't seem to find it.

Thanks. By the way Microsoft has a download available that will let you read the .hlp files.

Okay, I see where they were discussed but I've looked through the documentation with Vicksburg and I can't find anything on the rules. What I want to know is the nuts and bolts of the new rules. How to implement and what there affects are.
