Does it make any difference which way a leader or supply wagon is facing? Does a rear shot increase the chances of losing a leader or more supplies than if it had been a frontal shot?

No. From what I understand...and I've just gone away to check on the rules sections to make sure...Leaders and Supply Wagons have no facing, they receive no penalty or benefit from their facing direction and it costs no movement points to change direction for them either. It's purely 'cosmetic'.
I normally fiddle around each game turn just getting all the leaders and wagons facing the 'right' way, I guess I'm just fussy about the battlefield looking too untidy.

Don't worry, Jim - you aren't the only OCD arranger of wagons and leades... I do the same thing. [:p]

I was especially bad with this in the Battleground games, with the graphics standing out so much more...

HPS broke the habit, since I play in 2D over there...[:D]

Leader facing does matter to the AI. A formation will face in the direction he is facing. Scenario designers need to watch for that.

Al,

Are you saying that the A/I will turn units in the opposite direction if a leader is accidentally placed facing the wrong way??????????????

Let's see if I remember...

Bill, it's not in any manuals. Rich, I do think so.

I was playing around with NRC along time ago, and noticed some Russian bdes/divs forming up, and facing in odd directions. I believe it was a scn I was making (not kept), I'll run a test or two in FIW and see what I find.

I need to replace my ACW games, so I can get active again around here. (just replace all my Nap titles. happy, happy)

I ran a few tests in Jena on the oob map, and having leaders facing different directions did not seem to affect how the Ai moved units in attack or defense with or without objective hexes. I only used the Ai flags in the test without any scripting.

Maybe it was a BG thing. I do remember it was a Borodino map that I was playing around with. [:)]
