I would like to see this changed. The guns are lost to the owner for the battle, so ...

Currently in a game where the tactical situation called for me to spike 12 Reb cannon, then get the heck out of the ambush site. No VPs for that coup. My opponent has a Minor Victory, however if VPs were award for spiked guns it would be a draw. Even half the normal points per gun would be nice.

I could see JT setting up were spiked guns were returned to the unit in a campaign, but for the battle the army spiking should get a little bit more of a reward than just silencing them. *sigh* hehehe...

BTW, in the BG titles capturing batteries reduced arty ammo totals, does overrunning them in the HPS titles do the same? If not, is there a way you can?

I agree if you spike enemy guns you should get VP for it. If nothing else it represents the damage you did the crew and equipment. You shouldn't have to bring up your artillery adjacent to the units rear and shoot at abandoned guns to get your VP.

Yes, in HPS taking or killing a gun reduces the ammo of the other side by an amount equal to the number used for adding ammo when reinforcement artillery enters. Also, if you capture a battery you get the equivalent ammo added to your army's total artillery ammo. In many a scenario with paticularly low CSA ammo levels I have kept my guns fireing by capturing enemy artillery.

Thanks Kennon,

The captured ammo, does that go away if you leave the captured battery unoccuppied, say spiked?

As I recall, once you capture the ammo it is yours for the scenario. If the enemy recaptures the gun, they don't get the ammo back. If the gun is re-recaptured by you, you don't get any more ammo.
