Gentlemen
I was hoping to get some words of wisdom regarding gunboat tactics from some of you veterans of the HPS Shiloh game scenarios. I am just beginning to play Shiloh battles, and was wondering if there are any general "Do's and Dont's" of gunboat tactics that would help me stay afloat.
Thanks in advance for comments and suggestions!

Remember that Gunboats are, essentially, moving and floating batteries. The enemies emplaced water batteries are fixed and cannot change facing. If you move around them ("running the batteries") you can fire on their rear and they won't be able to return fire.

Recently played Belmont Advance on the Shiloh campaign and tried to run my gunboats past the reb shore batteries. Not a good plan. They sunk one of the 2, gave the reb a minor victory too.
