Is there any way to eliminate the objectives or at least set their value to zero? To my mind, there are numerous meeting engagements with these hexes that actually work against the meeting engagement's premise, which is, the accidental meeting of two opposing forces. Now in the game there is no accident but there is a FOW about where the enemy is or from where he will approach or will go. However, if there are objective hexes, then both sides know that the enemy is going that way.
Take Gettysburg for instance. The main battle was a true meeting engagement, yet objectives are specified with high values so they must be defended by the Union or suffer severe point loss. I submit that meeting engagements, by definition, should not have any objectives other than the destruction of the opposing force. After all, Gettysburg had no strategic significance so its possible that without objective hexes, there would be a completely new battle developing - not necessarily around Gettysburg city itself.

A bandaid to this problem is to simply have a prebattle agreement that objective hexes will have no value and just discount them from the victory points. I also wish there were a way to turn them off as sometimes they do seem to have a negative effect on a match.

You could use the Battle Editor and delete the Objective Hexes. I'd load the file and then save it under a different name so you dont permanently delete them from the original battle file. Maybe save it as Gettysburg II or something.

Blake: Can I just set the value to zero?

Yes, that deletes the objective hex when you do so.

I'm not very savy with programs, where do I find the battle editor?

David: click on "cwedit" in the game file. It will be an application file. It brings up the list of scenarios in the game file, choose the file you want and click on it to bring up the game. Click on "Hexes" and among the choices, it hs "remove objectives".
