Jesse Reno

John Reynolds

When the General accidentally rode into a Union picket line outside Petersburg Virginia, he ordered them to surrender. They opened fire instead. He was shot straight through the heart.

Date of Death: January 2, 1904 Age at Death: 82
Last Words: "Helen, we shall be happier in this post."


Albert Sidney Johnston
Date of Death: April 6, 1862 Age at Death: 59
Last Words: "Yes, and I fear seriously."
In response to one of his staff officers who asked him if he had been wounded.


George McClellan
Date of Death: October 29, 1885 Age at Death: 58
Last Words: "I feel easy now. Thank you."


Winfield Scott Hancock
Date of Death: February 9, 1886 Age at Death: 61

Hancock was calling out to his wife Almira but he could get out the "Goodbye"


Ulysses S. Grant

Robert E. Lee

Last Words: "Strike the Tent"


Yes. Both Grant's and Lee's last words were orders.

Whats ironic if I remember correctly...
both Jackson and Lee in their words at their death were referring to AP Hill

Some suggest Lee's last words were: "Tell Hill to come up. Strike the tent". However, Lee was bed-ridden for days prior to his departure and from first hand accounts was barely able to speak a word. Therefore, some doubt whether the reference to Hill was possible.

As far as Jackson goes, I do not know.
