He was one of the big big figures in continuing the WDS programming for the Civil War series. I didn't know Berto that well, but I do know that he was big time into the Civil War, and was a big big reason that that series was able to continue.

This man made some real contributions to the games we love, and I will always appreciate those times he shared information with us in the Tavern.

Thank you Steve for passing on this sad news.

I didn't know Berto myself, but I am truly grateful for his large body of work on these compelling games which we all love.

My sincere condolences to his family and friends.

I had limited interactions with the man but he was always very helpful and gracious.

Gentlemen,

The WDS 'Game of the Week', as doubtless many of you will have seen, is Panzer Battles 1941. Berto (Robert Osterlund) was the Lead Programmer in that title, a fitting tribute by WDS I believe.

I had many discussions with Berto while compiling the 2021 updates to the CWB Manuals, on the forums, in emails and in person on Zoom sessions while working with him on the updates he made to the series.
He was very helpful in clearing things up and answering some of the questions about the game that had been submitted by ACWGC members.
I found he both knew his craft and had the ability and the patience to explain it.
He will be missed not just for his knowledge but because he was one of the good ones.

As noted by many, an incredibly important person to our games & hobby. He's the reason the Observer Corps was founded, as a path for him to interact with the Club.

I'm very thankful for all the work he put into the games and the collaborations he did with others, so that we can continue to enjoy them. We've benefitted from such expertise, patience & commitment.

My sympathies to his family, friends and his colleagues at WDS.

Thanks Steve for letting us know.

Berto has been added to the Memorial page.
