Ran across some signatures in my dad's desk this last week from George Wallace, Ron Santo, and Gayle Sears. Odd mixture, lol. But it got me thinking of "historical signatures" you might be able to purchase in an auction.

Excluding the "Big Six" (Lincoln, Davis, Lee, Stonewall, Sherman, and Grant), which Civil War personality's signature would you be willing to plop down a wad of cash for?

Would you try and find a notorious one like John Wilkes Booth or Henry Wirz? Or maybe go for the more popular ones like Joshua Chamberlain or Patrick Cleburne? Or try to get a hold of one of the really tough ones to find like Albert Sidney Johnston or Nathaniel Lyon? I am tempted to try and find a Forrest signature but imagine they would be hard to track down or authenticate for various reasons. Having a Jeb Stuart signature would be a nice addition to the "War Room" in my house though. To balance it out with a Yankee signature I'd try to hunt down a Daniel Sickles signature (always one of my favorite characters of the war).

I've never had a hankering for paraphernalia like this but if I had extra cash and a desire for this sort of thing, I'd probably add Phil Sheridan for clearing out the Valley, Phil Kearny as a prominent Jersey guy, Black Jack Logan if he happened to sign it that way, and Fitz John Porter for his notoriety.

Custer would be a good one.

My picks are Hancock, just ahead of John Reynolds, & JEB Stuart.
