American Civil War Game Club (ACWGC)

My job has taken me away from the club for a while to deal with the effects caused by Katrina and it's sad to say that our historical places weren't exempt from the storm.
For those of you who are interested in American Civil War preservation here's a New York Times article on how Katrina severely damaged Jefferson Davis' last home, "Beauvior". It's located on the beach in Biloxi, MS and took the brunt Katrina had to offer. Fortunately, even though it sustained lots of damage they say structurally it can be restored. From the pictures though it took quite a beating. Unfortunately that can't be said for many other historical buildings in the area some of which had been standing since the 1840s. Sad.

Thank you for this report. I lived in Biloxi when I was younger and have been wondering how Beauvoir fared. The closest photos I've seen in the news were of the Convention Center, built right next to Beauvoir (I think -- the Convention Center was built just after I left).

I have been wondering about such historic structures. What about the forts along the coast in the area? Anyone know how they fared?

I also had been wondering about Beauvoir. My wife and I visited it in the mid 80s and I always found the Gulf Coast to be a wonderful place to visit. I have been in Montana for 15 years now and have not had the time to visit the area since. I had hoped that this historic site had not been destroyed.

Beauvior is a wonderful site, me and my wife visited it many times when I was stationed in Gulfport at the Seabee base there in the early 90's. We almost moved there after I retired in 97, but only made it as far south as North Carolina thought.
