With a light snow falling, many Washington politicians and senior military men witnessed the change of command for the Union Army. General Jeff Laub, currently commanding the Army of the Potomac, relieved General Mark Nelms who heads back to the field after a distinguished tour.

Much of General Laub's Army of the Potomac was present as an honor guard as they are in winter camp along the Rappahanock to the south.

In other news, a moose was briefly sighted in our nations capitol, details at our 11pm broadcast...[:D]

With the snow falling on cedars around the Cedar Creek Inn, the Union four-star general lifts his head silently from his whisky glass, moves his old boots closer to the fireplace, and contemplates the news from Washington the clerk has just brought. "Hm, so Old Abe has found yet another good man who doesn't mind spending his days at a desk." His mind wanders off to memories of all the men in high places he has seen come and go over the years. "Well, at least the army is in good hands with General Laub, that much is sure. I just hope he will know his sword from a quill in a few months." With mixed feelings, the old general scribbles a congratulatory note on the backside of an unpaid bill and sends the clerk off to the telegraph office. Then he settles down with another whisky and starts thinking again ... "the truth is, I should probably have sent my congratulations to General Nelms instead. Afterall, he will finally be able to get out of that political swamp and breathe some fresh air again ... if he still knows how do ride a horse!" And with a vivid recollection of Old Fuss and Feathers' last attempts to mount a horse, the general smiles inwardly and returns to the newspaper and his whisky.

As the General and his orderly step off the train at some little wayside somewhere in Tennessee a cold drizzle makes for a gloomy day. The General looks to the orderly and barks, "You did clean out the liquor cabinet before we left Washington didn't you?" The orderly responds with a quick "Yes Sir, and I left the keys to the cabinet on the desk where General Laub will find them. The escort to our new HQ should be arriving any minute and they were instructed to bring you a gentle mount also!" The General reflects about how his girth has grown in proportion to the time spent behind that infernal desk in Washington. He knows that the hard campaigning ahead will soon take care of that though. "Well break out some of that liquor son, might be the last chance we get for awhile as I propose to move on those inbred, barefoot, possum-eating treasonous SOB's down south as soon as the roads dry!"

"Sir, a message from Maj Stewart, responsible for operating the railroads in the rear of the AoC! You should come at once to the station to see an old friend travelling West!" the courier salutes smartly and delivers the note to Gen Wistedt.
Wondering who that person could be, the general hurries down to the railway station, where he can see a volumnious soldier in a full general's uniform walking around.
"Ahh, general Nelms! You old whisky-drinker! Finally back in the field again! And I see that you bring the supplies needed for the first month with you in your belly![:D]" the general greets his old friend. General Nelms tries to brandish his sabre, but instead of a sabre he draws a large writing-feather..[:)] "Too much time behind the desks", genereal Nelms murmurs. "But the word can be as deadly as the sword.." Both officers laughs and general Wistedt gives general Nelms his own, batttle-worn sabre. "Take this one Sir! Now when you are back in field command, you won't need the feather anymore - except for the monthly reports.[:p]"

"Corporal, take this box with Weizen to Maj Stewart and order him to send them to General Laub, the new COA in Washington, as a welcome gift!" But only one box, as else he might reconsider his appointment to the desks there and desires to be re-assigned the AoC to have more of this good stuff!"[:D]

Generals Nelms and Wistedt walk to the local tavern to have some more Weizens, as well as to catch up on recent news from the capital..
