Hello, ACW people. I retired from the club long ago, but I was cleaning out my office today and found my old discs. I have bought a new machine since I last played any Battleground games, and I'm having trouble installing them on it.

I started with Gettysburg. I installed the game straight from the disc, no patches, then unzipped the 32 bit upgrade into the game folder, overwriting files any time it prompted me. But when I try to start the game, I get a box pop up with this message:

Startup Error
Error reading from map file: main.map

I get a little piece of map, about three hexes worth, in the upper left corner, but the rest of the map display is black.

Now, it's been five or six years since I played this game, but I seem to recall that this black screen and error message was the result of some foolish error. Now I've made it, and I can't remember what else to do. Can any of you help? You can email me at smacphee at verizon dot net, or you can post any advice here.

Thanks in advance, gentlemen.

OK, so I remembered the foolish mistake I made. I had to update the 16 bit with the latest patch, then run the 32 bit upgrade. It's working fine, now.

Sorry to have bothered you, ACW people, but it's good to see some familiar names still active in the club.

I remember you well Scott, all those years ago! If you fancy getting back into the gaming you'd be very welcome to rejoin the AoC![:)] We've had a few veterans rejoining in the last year or two.

Just trying to start a little trouble here but Scott and I are entering into discussions about him returning to the Club as a Rebel! Seems like the apppropriate thing to do!

Seems strange going from the difficult side to play to the easier one, what with all those A morale rebs and sweet C&C rules. Didn't think Scott would need a crutch. Hasn't been that long has it? [;)]

Oh, I'm not ready to return yet. This teaching job requires a lot of time, if I'm going to do it right.
