As I read the summary of the article in the first post I hung on every word and agreed with everything he said, and it's not a bad thing but it's the truth IMHO and spot on even 13 years later. And I believe WDS will be around 13 years from now, but the game engine will have advanced maybe 3 years c... |

I met him again, he was trudging along, His knapsack with chickens was swelling; He'd "Blenkered" these dainties, and thought it no wrong, From some secessionist's dwelling. "What regiment's yours? and under whose flag Do you fight?" said I, touching his shoulder; Turning slowly ... |

When I was a young Civil Engineer in the mid '80's I had the opportunity to name some streets on a subdivision map I was preparing in Vacaville California. The developer changed a few before it recorded but two names stuck: Stuart Court and Meade Court. Checking this morning I found it interesting t... |

When I visited Prairie Grove Battlefield in January 2023 i was relieved(?) to see that the Hindman Hall Museum and visitor center was still named as such. Interesting that it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places as late as 2020. |

I was just reading this morning about Bragg's defense of Missionary Ridge near Chattanooga where Thomas' Divisions launched a "Pickett's charge" type assault on the steep, fortified ridgeline. A significant section of the demoralized Confederate line gave way with very few Union casualties... |

The best way to visit the larger battlefields is to install the apps from the Civil War Trust website onto your cellphone. https://www.battlefields.org/visit/mobile-apps/civil-war-battle-maps-app Then, as long as you have cell/satellite coverage you can see your location on the annotated battlefield... |

I'm headed to the VA Peninsula tomorrow for a tour of the 1862 Seven Days campaign and the 1864 Overland end-game at Cold harbor and Petersburg. I told my wife that would wrap up my bucket list but my brother reminded me we still need to do the Red River campaign in LA. |

Do you mean the "Old Banshee" site? I don't think there is a dedicated mod site anymore since WDS took over, is there? |

I'm headed to the Ozarks next month with my brother Mark - Wilson's Creek - Pea Ridge - Prairie Grove - Newtonia - Carthage so we fired up the Newtonia scenario with the new weather versions. This scenario is small and short and ends at night so it was nice to experience the gradual sunset. I was wo... |

Yes, that was a fatal flaw. There were a few occasions where the CSA came close to doing that but that thinking also led to the result at Gettysburg. My view is that Longstreet's strategic thinking was more likely to bring victory. A friend of mine and I used to play Victory Games "The Civil W... |

What was the decision process that led to 30 minute turn scenarios? I looked through the literature a bit but couldn't find it but if it's been discussed I apologize for my ignorance. Otherwise it's like the proverbial elephant in the living room. Not sure I would want to play these but I'll try to ... |

[quote="simovitch"]I did all the weather mods for Old Banshee back in the day, for most of the games on Ken's list above, except Corinth. I wasn't sure how many folks were using them since both sides had to have the pdt files for HTH. I think the variable weather makes the games so much mo... |

I can't explain why but controlling a general rout of my forces while facing a major defeat is really stressful to me, so much so that I get to a point where I can't even watch the replay anymore (sniff). I will let the victor have a few turns of rampage but after that I send a termination bid for s... |
