I googled it and found that over 183,000 cases of syphilus and other diseases were documented during the war. The undocumented ones probably exceeded that number. It's an aspect I never thought about but it seems very obvious once you consider it. Trying to keep the men healthy was probably hard eno...

The Peninsula Campaign features the use of both a hot-air balloon for observation by the Union and the deployment of land mines by the Confederates. I can't say how much these newer ideas effected things but if the gamemakers ever found a way to add them to the games they could be a way to make the ...

If your stationary units get fired at but take no losses are they able to recover fatigue? I've always wondered that. I often have a lot of extra ammo to use and if I can keep the enemy from recovering fatigue in some way at a range of 20 then it might be worth it.

You would imagine that shoe factory legend would have been dispelled sooner but even I thought there was a shoe factory until now. Shows what I know.

Not the worst game dealing with a Civil War general. Don't forget about Nintendo's "Custer's Revenge" which was banned in the 80s.

I think the argument that historical gaming will never be able to recreate actual battles perfectly because the fog of war will never be repeatable is fully supportable. Any time you play any game based on history both sides always know more than they should which will always effect the choices they...

I remember playing this game as a kid and thinking it was cool. I need to go find it at my parents house because I think I still have it. You should play it through just for laughs.

I've never read a full biography on Sherman but need to. He seems like a conflicted person in many ways who fights for the Union but would rather not fight at all. Listened to the podcast today after reading this. You guys can listen to them on the Apple podcasts app if you have an iPhone.

You can't treat Jefferson Davis as a "president" since he was nothing but the leader of a traitorous band of rebels. Assassinating rebel leaders is a sensible tactic for Lincoln to have pursued even earlier than 1864.

And Longstreet missed the entire Battle of Chancellorsville. Lee could win without Longstreet but not without Jackson. |
